figured i would post up in the off topic instead of just the So Cal Chapter so everyone can enjoy the Coleman lanterns!

well Ive seen a few of y'all chatting about old Coleman lanterns, and i have been telling myself i am gonna snap up some pictures to show my small collection.

2 of them were my dad's fathers and they were used when my dad and him would go camping as a kid. the propane job was my mothers dads and i don't remember him using it much. one of the gas lanterns my grandfather on moms side bought for me as a kid (10 yrs old ) for 5 dollars from the good will store in a clam shell case with a full tank of fuel! and one of the gas ones im not entirely sure where it came from.

3 of the 5 needs servicing, the propane job needs a pair of mantels and a globe.

heres my stable of light!

Model 200A Date: 8 60 this one is my dads dad lantern.

Model 220K Date: 7 80 this one my grandfather on my moms side bought for me as a kid for $5 dollars. put a generator in it and use it now and then!

Model 5152B700 Date: 9 88 this one is also from my grandfather on my moms side.

Model 220F Date: 1 70 this one im am unsure of where i got it.

hears a picture of my 2 "modern" stoves. the one burner i bought in 2007 and the 2 burner i bought in 2010. the single burner i have used many times when i used to do a lot of tent camping, but since i go mostly with friends now in there trailer i haven't use it much. the 2 burner is brand new unused. i purchased it and never had a chance to use it yet. my friend bought a toy hauler and it comes with a stove

last but not least this lantern my dad remembers most as a kid camping with... i also need help identifying this lantern that was my grandfathers on my dads side, i cannot seem to find a obvious date stamp so somewhere prior 1948? dad first guess was it came over on the mayflower (smart ***) he guessed late 30's to mid to late 40's

i was thinking of taking some steel wool and wd40 and cleaning the bottom of the tank some so its easier to read the stamping.

there ya go guys! one day id like to get them all working again, need to maybe find someone to service them for me.

so a small update... i got this lantern going tonight (possibly a 228d? ). oiled up the pump massaged the leather pump diaphragm with some oil, burned in a new set of mantels and with a little hope i got her to light. i want to say its possible this one has not been lit up in 25 to 50 years.

needs a little work and cleaning as the light is not very bright and "pulses"

sadly i couldn't get the 200A to hold pressure and stay lit. only had enough pressure built to make a 12" tall flame as i pumped to my hearts content trying to get her to go.

Usually not holding pressure is the cap gasket or the check ball valve getting a little sticky.

Pulsing, just needs a thorough cleaning soup to nuts. When ya gonna drop it off?

sean,

i borrowed the cap from my 220K and it still wouldn't really build pressure.

was thinking when ever you got time of course! bring my 220F and 220K to ya and have ya do a checkup on the K model and see what the F model needs to get back to snuff.

Wow - good memories of those things way back when.... remember the 'roaring' fire when they were glowing !
And cooked many a scrambled egg on the stove when we were tent camping !

wish I had held onto a few of them....
but alas, we go in the 5er now and just have a coleman propane powered BBQ that does a GREAT job both at home and on the road

Those kerosene lanterns are nice for drying the tent out before you go to bed.

None of what has been displayed in this thread uses kerosene at all.

Very few Coleman lantern models use kero, though many have been converted to run on it.

These lanterns and stoves use a highly-refined form of gasoline called "camp fuel".

Remember, even though the catalytic heaters don't produce very much carbon monoxide, they still use up the oxygen in a space, so be very careful to have adequate ventilation when using them.

nothing like the sight and sound of a classic gasoline lantern lighting the night! or the warmth and slight glow from a classic gasoline heater.

awesome sean!

i lit up the heater last night in the yard and let it run for a few hours while i was out to dinner with friends.... it was dark when i returned to a nice warm gentle glow around the rim of the catalyst.
