i was thinking at the very least call and see if the price can be adjusted some... but its tough now days with the internet, anyone can research a item and get a price to base there sale price off of, or inflate the price. the 228E has been listed for a few weeks, it was $85 when i first saw it.
when i was last at the swap meet in saugus at the speedway the little Asian man wanted $80 for his 242C that was in worse shape then that B on Craigslist.
oh well will see, i got this 228F and 220F i bought a few weeks ago to tinker with. was thinking of a kerosene convert on the 220F as i have a awesomely fixed up 220F already!
on a side note i have been doing some reading on mantels and it looks like i need to order up some of the peerless mantels those guys rave about over at </title> <title>Welcome to the CCF
so a small update... i got this lantern going tonight (possibly a 228d? ). oiled up the pump massaged the leather pump diaphragm with some oil, burned in a new set of mantels and with a little hope i got her to light. i want to say its possible this one has not been lit up in 25 to 50 years.
needs a little work and cleaning as the light is not very bright and "pulses"
She's coming along nicely Jason:
I put the vent in a bit longer to de rust. Still have some greenies on the font, just needs more rubbing.

HOLY SMOKES SEAN! it looks awesome! ya read my mind, i was thinking of shootin ya a text today to ask about the lanterns.
is the striker installed for testing purposes? im guessing its a 228B? ive been doing a little research myself and it sure looks like one...
im going to try and bring my dad out when ever your ready for me to pick them up, i want him to see them, and personally meet " this guy i know who fixes Coleman"
on a side note that 220F i bought with the 228F.. i tried lighting it last night and it won't light unless i tip it over and get some fuel into the burner then it lights runs out of fuel and dies. so today i took it all apart and later when i have some carb cleaner or solvent ill start to degrease it and try my hand at bringing it back to life.... as i was taking it apart i was amazed at the simplicity! guess i did not have the ***** to try my first rebuild on a cherished family piece.
wont make it out today! just seen your message and kinda late in the day, gotta go to work in 4 hrs. next Saturday sounds like a possibility, ill see how my week plays out and keep in touch with ya.
did i send it to ya with a striker or did you add it?, for some reason im stuck on stupid last 2 days and cannot remember.
Sorry you had to discover a flaw that a few of the oldies have. POR-15 could be used, but that stuff's a real pain!
With the amount of rust I had in the tank of the little Czech barn lantern I did last week, I was sort of looking for something like that to happen. With the unpressurized ones, however, a small dab of JB Weld works wonders.
So now the question: Do you break it down for parts, let it become a display-only, non-functioning unit, or get it completely running again?

I think I'll look for a replacement Sears font. Can't make a Frankie yet.
