Though a slight variation on the term "lantern", I finished this one yesterday. It was kinda' rusty, especially inside the font and the burner assembly.

My cousin's husband gave it to me the last time we saw them. I got to thinking that he needs a small emergency lighting source, so the next time we see them, he gets it back full of Kero #1.

All it took was some phosphoric acid, time, and grey enamel.

It's a cold-blast, a Meva #864. It uses a metric-size wick, and though I was able to get a new 3/8" one through the burner, it was still not quite right, so I decided to re-use the old one after soaking it in lacquer thinner to clean it out. Seemed to work better.

I like those old closed flame wick lanterns. Got a few Monarchs and Dietz laying around. They won't blind you, but they give off pretty decent light.

My darned 220 stopped holding pressure this past week, I'm gonna have to investigate

Good place to start. I'll put my 228's cap on there, I know it seals because I opened it @ 7000' after filling it at sea level and bathed my hand in camp fuel

Occasionally, tiny bits of leather from the pump get down into the check valve.

Does the pump stem want to raise back up out of the font before you close that valve?

Just something to consider.

No, it doesn't. The pump itself feels a little odd though. What I mean is some times a stroke of the pump will not offer any resistance, though most times it does. Maybe that leather piece is shot, or it needs a squirt of oil?

Give it a shot of 30W and see.

However, oil alone will have nothing to do with it holding pressure if it's crud in the valve.

A good soak in 30W will expand that leather and give a better seal. Might give that check ball a squirt of carb cleaner (lantern upside down) if indeed Pop is right about a chunk o leather.

Yes, enough for that.

I believe the average for these small ones is about six candle-power.

Agree, that's plus $50 in fuel... CL is great if lanterns are less than $25.

COLEMAN LANTERN. This one has extras!
