Alright here is a few Q's for you boys

What can I get legally
AK-47
M-14
SOCOM 16
M-16
HK-416

AFTER THAT
WHICH IS BEST as a Azzault rifle?

edited ss for zz's

AFTER THAT
Which do you think I can get ammo for easily?

Combine all of the above with knock down power and accuracy which is the best option?

AK, AR platform (socom) or M-4 variants are pretty easy and readily avialable. M-14's aren't hard to get if you want to pony up the money.

Rounds for all are pretty easy to get at academy etc.

As for the best.... Hmmmmm
What are factors for you?
Weight?
How far do you want to accurately engage targets?
What would be primary use? Hunting? Home defense? Zombie apocalypse?
AR platforms are easy and have so much crap available.
.223/5.56 is a good inexpensive round
6.8 mm SPC is a better round with ballistics and ability to drop critters. .308 is a tried and true round. Long range, accuracy, and knock down power.

If weight wasn't a factor I'd say Springfield M-14 scout.
If you don't want heavy and more round capacity but still want to hunt I'd go with an AR in 6.8 mm.
If you want an inexpensive gun for purchase and use go with the AR in a .223/5.56. Rounds are cheapest and their still a usable weapon for defense etc.

I second the posting above me, lots of things to consider.

All the selections are legal for you to own. These are just semi-auto, magazine fed weapons, not the evil "assault rifles". You can get full-auto versions (Class 3) but the cost soars and there are hoops to jump through with the BATF.

Budget and purpose are major factors. OP appears to not have a ton of experience? If that is the case, I would also recommend selecting a platform that the user or available persons have experience with.

Thanks guys
. I have plenty of rifles to hunt with. So its not for hunting.
Its not realy for home defense either (at this time). I have plenty of ohter gns for close up.

I was looking for a midium range with the allbility to reach out to furhter range.

Reason I ask I was watching a show on the tube about this this morning. They just were covering the rifle move from Germany to Russa and then the US and the later developments.

I think the one that impressed me with the power and accuracy was the SOCOM-16 and the newer HK-416. The 416 gas chamber buffer on the recoil was impressive.

Also I think both of those have deflector ribs for the casings.

I have two 7mags one light weight and the other not as light. They are both used for hunting. I also have a 6mm and 30/30 and have had a 30 06. So I am looking for a light weight a**ault rifle with good knock down power mid range that has a beefy clip capacity.

So thoughts on that?

Also how about some thoughts on this guy?

Given the new comments; sounds like a general SHTF/zombie apoc rifle! I'd say go with a AR platform them. You can go with a piston upper but honestly it is not needed for a semi-auto. I've fired endless rounds full auto in a M16 and have never found myself with the short end of the stick because of having a gas tube system.

But here is my thinking on the choice of AR:

Widely available and numerous parts.
Proven platform that performs.
Effective ranges out to 300m-800m depending on equipment, ammo, skill.
Variety of ammo for different uppers, but would still go with 5.56mm as it is most commonly available and again performs adequately.
AR will fit anyone's budget from Olympic Arms to Colt, etc...

If you like to shoot lots of ammo cheaply, spend next to nothing maintaining it, and never experience a malfunction.........Go with a AK platform. They are more accurate than given credit, and so rugged the only way to prevent it from firing is to KILL it's operator, ammo is dirt cheap (in 7.62x39mm) and plenty of accessories are available.
I also maintain and shoot several AR platforms and love them too, but if the choice was one or the other............It would be AK-47.

Glad to see the Lone Star state is as well armed as I would imagine!
We have our troubles in Oregon with the wacko liberals who run the govt' here, but our gun rights are still pretty much anything goes.

Do you have CHL there? Here we have to get certified to carry and pay for that and then there is a recert and we pay for that.

I have a CHL and carry, requirements here are simply that you are not a felon, no criminal record, and pass the testing and education program to be licensed. One time testing and registration fee, and every 2 years a fee to stay current.

I believe the small pistol you actually CARRY beats the big bore you leave at home because it's a PITA to carry.

My choice is a Walther PPKs .380acp loaded with 85 gr JHP +P+ Cor-Bon ammo.

Dave your CHL sounds about like ours. I think Georga can carry without a CHL, not sure though.

We actually have open carry here as a option, quite popular in rural areas.............However, in Portland or Eugene, it would send the latte-sipping liberals diving for cover into the nearest Abercrombie and Fitch.

Rural and Urban areas in Oregon are as far apart in attitudes as you can get.
