If we label a firearm as a "commie gun" and despise it for being used against our own, aren't we just propagating the anti-gun crowd cry of "guns kill people"? I'm pretty sure a single AK never has killed an American by it self; there was a commie, insurgent, shooter, etc.. who committed the act.
Not really. It's a lot like the Ford vs. Chevy argument. I prefer the 1911 platform over a plastic glock. Same thing there too.

We used to tell the new guys out of Idiot Training School that the equipment out in the fleet was more worn down than what they had trained on. We would tell them that our equipment was worn down and the phones woulnd't work unless you liked the wires first before inserting them in the phone. We'd say you have to do it like this and stick the exposed comm wire in our mouth to moisten it and then hook it up to the phone. Then we'd tell them to do the same with their end of the wire and hook it into their phone.
If you're an old time grunt, then you know what we did as soon as they stuck the wires in their mouth. If not, you have no clue what I'm talking about.

If the discussion is of the nature of 5.56mm verses 7.62, then yeah, I'd agree with your analogy of Ford vs Chevy or .45 1911 vs 9mm Glock. But I don't feel that's the light in which the argument was first presented (& I don't mean to speak for doublenot7, but I'd dare say, that's not the way he interrupted it either).
And I, personally, am much too old (& wise) to get involved in the caliber / ballistics pro & con discussions between the two weapons.
As for the 1911 vs Glock: I own 'em both and love them both for what they are (but then again, my wife accuses me of having never met a gun I didn't like....and, I'm afraid, she'd be right!).
Glock's are nice weapons, I personally dislike the trigger and the general "feel" of the weapon as opposed to Beretta 92 or a SIG, but that's just my lousy opinion.
Many folks shoot the Glock VERY well, more power to em'..............But you won't see me trading my 1943 vintage Remington Rand 1911 .45acp in on one!
I did my full tour in the Navy and met all kinds of people. I also worked in Iraq a few years ago as a civilian UXO (Unexploded Ordnance) tech. I have had the opportunity to see every branch up close and work with them hand in hand, on land, in the air, and on water, both in peacetime and with bullets coming at us.
I can tell you this without a doubt, there is a certain element of the American population that will do whatever it takes to prove themselves to be idiots, and dressing them in blue, green, or camo does nothing at all to discourage their pursuit of idiocy. They are represented in every branch. Thankfully they are the minority.
This is the best thing I have read today! Thanks for pointing out one of life's big old truths!
I'm going to snag this and put it in my favorite quotes collection!

100% on preference for our likes and dislikes, was just saying don't disregard a weapon just because "others" use of it. Dislike it for any other reason, just not who picked it up prior.
Oh yes, we have all enjoyed the simple gag of the field phone. Much nicer than having the newbs checking for "turret ring" (stick head under turret armor to inspect the turret ring while sledge hammer is applied to outside of armor - RING!).
1SG caught me one day in motor pool with a few 'cruits jumping up and down on the rear deck of a track. I told Top they were checking the suspension system, he just walked away shaking his head.

Now I feel bad for you.
Tell you what. Because I'm such a nice guy, I'll buy you a brand new Remington 1911 and give it to you in exchange for that old wore out pistol you have. That way you can have a nice pretty new one instead of that old rust bucket.

You are a nice guy!............you want me to throw the .22lr conversion kit in too?

Chris, if you don't take him up on that offer right away, I will. It would make real nice addition to my period collection sitting right next to my garand, carbine, Colt 1911, Lee Enfield, Mauser and 30 cal American Eagle German Luger!
I thought the recruits just walked in and they issued them dunagrees and stuck them on a boat. Not to belittle the fine sailors in the Navy but the USN certainly has a very high number of "problem sailors". I once had a Navy engineer assigned to me (Army) and this kid could not operate a TA-1 field phone (or anything else for that matter).

Well in my short 24 years in the Navy I too worked with all branches and agree completely with bodabdan, and as far as doublenot7's comment, that is quite a generalization, if we were that messed up, it is pretty amazing those Aircraft carriers find their way around the world and the airplanes get off and back on them! Yes I know it was all good natured, mine was not an angry comment!
As of 1986 when i went to Boot and present (confirmed by a buddy that is currently serving as one) they are still called Company Commanders in the Navy or "CC's" for short.

I don't have one of those yet, but it's got to be easier to disassemble than my Ruger 22/45. I still wonder what they were thinking (smoking) when they designed that little gem.

Looks like you've got a bunch of cr** too. I guess I should offer to buy you some modern plastic, err, I mean polymer weapons to replace that outdated junk you have. Yea, polymer, that's the stuff you want. I'll take that old stuff off your hands.

I add, but never subtract!
"bunch of cr**" is a much nicer term than my wife uses - sometimes. But don't anyone ever touch the 1911's! I made a mistake 30 some odd years ago and taught her how to shoot them..........ever since they have been "hers". All of the other "dust collectors", the nice term she uses, are mine, except for the 1978 Colt AR15SP and that's hers too. Everytime I head out to shoot a 1911 or that AR I get this "You're taking MY gun?"

I got a crappy, old, Belgian made Browning 9mm hi-power, from the 1960s too..........is it worth anything in trade for some of that great new polymer?
