Oh I don't leave any fire arms in the truck. I just have a SOG Seal Pup stashed between my seat and the center console (FX4 trim) attached to the seat belt buckle. It works really well, nice and concealed but easy access. I just thought that setup might work well. When not in use the holster can be slid under the seat too.
I was thinking something more concealed is called for, to be compliant with Texas gun law about carrying a gun in the car (which says it has to be out of sight). Plus a big 'ole belt strapped around the seat like that kinda "advertises" to someone peeking in the window, that there might be a gun in this car to be had. I tend to play my carry very 'low key' especially in my vehicle (for instance, I don't even put an NRA sticker on the window); but I do want it within reach and ready to rock 'n roll should it ever be needed. Mostly, I don't want to be breaking Texas law by having it out in the open.
busyknight, I agree with you 100%. I will not post anything on my windows or bumpers that advertise anything to do with firearms or clubs and oganizations having to do with firearms. You can open a whole big can of worms. We know we carry, and as long as ya know how to use it, thats good enough for me. Just puts ideas in bad guys heads. My brother is a gun dealer and he also carries and he also had a NRA sticker if his truck window and got his truck busted into. I was with him - we were going into an airport to pick up a friend and he left his firearm in the truck. When we got back - window broke and gun gone. I'm just glad I didn't carry that night or mine would also be gone. Bad guys are not always stupid.
Carrying concealed and transporting a firearm in your personal vehicle are two different things in Texas. You are not required to conceal a firearm being transported. You do not need a CHL to transport your firearm in your personal vehicle. Stick it in a gun rack if you really want in the rear window. You just cannot brandish it or cause alarm. Of course there are numerous reasons why you should conceal the firearm anyway.

So your brother is a dealer? What part of the state? Any FTE discounts?

Doublenot7, I would beg to differ. A quote from Wikipedia below. I think you'll find you do have to conceal a handgun carried in a vehicle. (Note item #1 in the law's qualifiers). You may be correct about carrying a long gun (I'm not sure about that) but my posting (and those about the seat belt & holster) obviously were dealing with a handgun.

Peaceable Journey
Gov. Perry also signed H.B. 1815, a bill that allows any Texas resident to carry a concealed handgun in the resident's motor vehicle without a CHL or other permit.[6] Chapter 46, Section 2 of the Penal Code states that it is in fact not "Unlawful Carry of a Weapon" for a person to carry a weapon while in a motor vehicle they own or control, or to carry while heading directly from the person's home to that car. However, lawful carry while in a vehicle requires these three critical qualifiers: (1) the gun must be concealed; (2) the carrier cannot be involved in criminal activities; and (3) the carrier cannot be a member of a criminal gang.[7][8]
Possession of automatic firearms, short-barreled shotguns or rifles, or silencers is permitted, if the weapons have been federally registered in accordance with the National Firearms Act.[2]

And directly from the Texas penal code (Section 46.02):
(a-1) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his or her person a handgun in a motor vehicle that is owned by the person or under the person's control at any time in which:
(1) the handgun is in plain view;
Busyknight ------------ God Bless Texas.... My brother refers to California as a 'third world country'.... I used to get upset at that statement but now I pretty much agree with him. AND its going down the toilet pretty fast.
But Masked Rider, not everyone feels that way. My favorite story from the history books has to do with General William T. Sherman, when he spent time in Austin after The War of Northern Aggression. He was put in charge of the occupying federal forces for several states west of the Mississippi. When asked what he thought about Texas he replied, if he owned Hell and Texas, he'd live in Hell and 'rent out' Texas. Such would have been his preference!
Don't know about that part of history - just know I like some of their gun laws compared to California. Some States even have better laws. "ya take guns away from the good guys, then only the bad guys have guns".
You didn't read my whole post...........
I HAVE 3 AR platforms as well, like em' just fine...........But in the real world, a AK makes more sense, CHEAP ammo, reliable like no other, rugged beyond belief, takes abuse no AR ever could, parts are a dime a dozen, plenty of accessories, more accurate then given credit.
I love my ARs too along with all by Brownings, Rugers, S&Ws, Colt's........
And my Euro offerings from Beretta, Walther, HK and SIG.
Buying American limits your choices somewhat in firearms.
Sometimes you just have to give the nod to the other guy, when it's due.
The AK series is a masterpiece of engineering and reliability, Mikhail Kalashnikov is a genius designer, just like John Moses Browning.........He just came from the other side of the line.....A line that's pretty much blurred now.
In terms of what makes a battlefield rifle great, reliability, ruggedness, accuracy, price per unit.........the AK beats the AR hands down.
I read it. I just don't like any gun that was designed by a Communist, or is used by f***ing Muslim terrorists to kill US troops.

1) Kalashnikov narrowly escaped being shot by Stalin's special police after his family was denounced as Kulaks in 1932, and exiled to Siberia.
2) America...{first} put an AK-47 into bin Laden’s hands. When the Israel Defense Forces invaded Lebanon in 1982 to “crush” the Palestinian Liberation Organization they captured thousands of AK-47s. These guns found their way, via the CIA...to the Mujahadeen.
3) Vietnam War. Their own M16s malfunctioned in the heat and damp of the jungle, but the AK-47s used by the communists continued to fire. Consequently, thousands of GIs picked up AK-47s from fallen Viet Cong guerrillas {to use}. So many GIs threw away their guns in favor of AK-47s that a House of Representatives hearing in 1971 discovered that the U.S. Army attempted to stop the media reporting the phenomenon.
4) Today, nearly 40 years later, in the sand and heat of Iraq, American soldiers are once again giving up their own U.S.-manufactured weapons in favor of the AK-47.

And in closing, I'll just add my own $0.02.
A lot more people than just muslims use the AKs; (paraphrasing from another website): from the barrios of Bogota to the street gangs of America, it's a natural weapon of choice. At last check, I think it's the only gun to appear on a national flag (Mozambique)....an African country. And of recent, I think IEDs and RPGs are more troubling for American ground forces than even AKs.
As far as Mikhail Kalashnikov is concerned, today, he's probably more of a 'Capitalist' than any of us! He didn't get rich (E. Stoner died a wealthy man) from his invention of the AK. But he's sure learned how to make his name worth something now. Besides lucratrive product endorsements he markets his own brand named vodka.
I read it. I just don't like any gun that was designed by a Communist, or is used by f***ing Muslim terrorists to kill US troops.
I know, call me crazy.
To each his own.
You might be interested to know Gen. Mikhail Kalashnikov is a full fledged capitalist.........He owns and operates his own vodka manufacturing co. and was good friends with Eugene Stoner, designer of the AR/M-16, after the fall of the soviet union.
And.........
US Spec. Ops and CIA operatives in Afghanistan routinely use the AK to send taliban and terrorists to meet the 71 virgins.
