I was at a logger museum once where they had a bunch of huge 2 man chain saws, and that's what I was looking for when I stumbled onto the car engined one. That was a new one for me. I can't imagine lugging 700+ pounds of V8 chain saw like those guys, and gals, do. But the history of this amazes me.
I'd like to know what the guy on the tail end of this saw has in his hands? Looks like a cardboard box duct-taped around the bar. From the look on his face I think he agrees it's sketchy.
I wish I had a pic, but alas I don't. In the early 60's we had a large 4 cycle engined chain saw (I was born in '51). The bar could swivel between vertical and horizontal in order to keep the engine crankcase "on the bottom". It had a detachable handle for the other end of the bar, making it into a two man saw. I'm only guessing but I think the bar was about 48". My brother and I ran this thing on a regular basis without dad in the vicinity. Larry would have been 16-17 and I would have been 13-14. I was always on the detachable handle end.
a lot of those large two man saws are hydraulic powered.
C & C Equipment in Nashville, IN buys low mileage, Mercedes, ex-military Unimogs equipped with hydraulic attachments including a chainsaw. These things look like giant Swiss Army knives on wheels.
