ok, waking this poor dead horse to beat on it some more.
trying to identify these currently on my truck. looked through the thread and didn't see any like it, so I'm 'assuming' they're some sort of aftermarket mirrors...but I hate to assume.
I don't love em, but honestly don't really hate em either. they're showing some pretty serious signs of wear, but rather than just replace them, I find it curious that I cant seem to find any like it anywhere.
Not original, this is a 1970's and later auto parts store mirror.
See that bracket sticking out of the slot in the door? The original mirror attached to it, there were three different types. Two of them are shown in post #19.
The other type is the chrome mirror with the round 5" mirror head that will be found on a gazillion 1955/66 trucks.
Painted Western rectangular head mirror, has a 3rd "Steady Rest" arm, bolts to the door / Obsolete / Note: This is the same mirror that is pictured in the OP's avatar.
I believe these are the Western mentioned above--and would have been white. Anyone know the proper color white? The bits that are left look brighter then Wimbelton. Semi or gloss?
If it matters, off of 66 f250, custom cab camper special.
While I plan to keep my exterior paint and details stock, I do like to restore some of the bits and pieces for a bit of OEM flair.
You fellas are definitly experts. I probably should just be quiet, listen and learn. Hope you don't mind a new guy sharing. I bought mine off of E-Bay, they were brand new repo's. (Very nicely done.) If interested I will share the vender and E-Bay name. Thanks

HA,
No worries... we are all still learning, my Friend!
So -- are you able to post a photo of your new-to-you mirrors? If so, let's see them!

What do you plan to bolt them onto?
BarnieTrk
Thanks Barnie ! They are going on my 1965 F-100 Custom Cab. Nice original truck, 352 with a factory automatic. I only have the entry level membership so not sure if I can post pictures of the mirrors, but will try. :-)
HA,
I think you are correct in that you have to jump through some hoops to be able to post pictures....but I don't know the specifics on gettting them posted.
So tell us about your '65 F100...
-- Did you get/purchase it lately?
-- Was it originally bought by a family member-heirloom?
-- Any known history?
-- What else do you plan to do besides add some mirrors?
Check out LMC Truck they have a few different option that I think you would like

Since this is the sticky and I learned something today, I thought I'd share it. Don't replace your original 5" round mirrors if they get stuck from rust or get too loose!
The mirror glass is actually held in with a thin snap ring with the help of spring tension.
Clean out the snap ring groove and the adjustment ball.
Snug up the adjustment ball and reinstall your glass and snap ring.
You'll need a helper with the snap ring while the tension on the springs is held. I hope this helps someone and good luck!
