Hi. I am looking for the mounting instructions for a Ford D3TB-17A721-HD towing mirror. Apparently it fits a wide range of years of Ford pickups, from 1961-1979. I believe it is similar to a "Type 13" mirror. Ive searched all over the internet with no luck. Any help HIGHLY appreciated! Thank you kindly!

Look at post 115 in this thread.
I would make a mount like in post 124 or 140 though and use the mirror slot in the door. Then all you need is to drill a hole for the brace. IMHO would be more correct for a slick.
1961 - 1966 trucks have the slot in the door near the vent window. If not used there was a rectangular shaped rubber plug that would go in that slot. The mirror you show is made to mount to the sheet metal skin using 3 fasteners in the shaped lower bracket. The other style telescoping mirror uses the slot in the door like this picture. Other things if you are looking for originality is the earlier trucks used gray colored mirrors and after 1966 they went to the off white. The heads will also read FoMoCo or Rotunda on the older ones and Ford on the newer ones.
Thanks. I guess what I should have asked for was West Coast Jr Swing Lock mirrors. I didn't realize the mirrors that came with the Camper Special were also called West Coast Jr. Looking at those instructions though I think mine are mounted a little bit back from what the instruction sheet shows. I'll need to check tomorrow. In any case though I'm taking those off and putting on the swing lock style.
I was re-reading some of this thread. Not sure how I missed this post. D'oh! Your project is done but maybe this will help the next guy looking for the Swing Lock instructions. The section with the dashed lines (upper left chunk) is supposed to go into the glove box for future reference when the mirrors loosen up some. I'll try to get a scan of this so the details are clearer.
Chad, If you can get a scan of that install sheet sometime that would be great. I don't remember who anymore but someone on the site got me measurements based on their truck that had the swing lock mirrors probably from new.
For the telescoping mirrors, my belief is that prior to 67 they came with the bracket to go in the door slot. After 66 they changed to the sheetmetal mount bracket so that the same kit would fit all trucks, less inventory for dealers to stock. FWIW the slot started in 1953.
Not sure how long the run was for the swing lock mirrors, lots of versions out there, and some differences even besides the arms. I had them on my 1960 Fridge years ago, my brother had a set on his 77 Highboy, so that's four versions of trucks plus the Econolines. Still my favorite mirror style for a 4x4 but the telescoping with the braces are cool since you don't see them often. Not sure they are $800 cool but try and find a new set somewhere else I guess.
Thanks a lot for the info. Highly appreciated! I can easily find diagrams for the type you mention, where theres pre-cut slot for the forward mounting arms. But trying to find the diagram for the type I have is a whole different story! Thanks again for the help.

This copy was pretty wrinkled, but I think this is the one for both the telescoping (left) and non-telescoping (right) with sheet metal installation like you have.
Here's instructions for the telescoping mirror with door slot installation.
Bill, I think the sheet metal installation type was just another option. Most of the part numbers date to the same era as the other mirrors for our trucks. The bracket is a C1TZ part number so first released in 1961. Also, the Rotunda install instructions I posted above are dated May 29th, 1964.
Another option not mentioned much is the non-telescoping 5" x 5" square (ish) mirrors. Here's a picture of Mom sitting on the back of Dads 1954 F100. You can see the mirror on the passengers door. This is similar to the type.
Here's my Grandads 1957 with him in the background near the tent. He has the same mirrors and appear to be painted black. Could these be telescoping? Hard to tell for sure.
Here's both trucks in the same picture. Same mirrors and look to be painted black on Dads truck, too.
Similar mirrors are pictured on the truck on the cover of this dealership brochure for 1966. These appear to be painted gray and have a single brace.
