I knew there had to be some mirrors available that would do what I wanted and look normal. I used the original bracket that fits the curve of the door. The rest is from an aftermarket kit used on jeaps. Now that I test fitted the pieces, I will paint them to match the bracket.
Hi. I am looking for the mounting instructions for a Ford D3TB-17A721-HD towing mirror. Apparently it fits a wide range of years of Ford pickups, from 1961-1979. I believe it is similar to a "Type 13" mirror. Ive searched all over the internet with no luck. Any help HIGHLY appreciated! Thank you kindly!

D3TZ-17696-J .. Outside Mirror - non telescoping / Type 13 / Uses C1TZ-17723-G Mirror Head / Obsolete
1973/74 F100/500 // See post 22 on page 1 of this side mirror thread. Originally the 1961/66 version of this mirror fit into a slot in the door.
But, no truck after 1966 had the door slot, so Ford added a bracket so the mirror could be bolted to the door.
Post 22 has a picture of how the mirror was mounted (the same mirror head was used), including the "steady rest" arm. So use that pic as a guide.
For anyone who needs mirrors that work and look good but are not original, here's a picture of what mine turned to be. They fit and work great. Not meant for anyone with a camper or hellbent on originality.
Anyone know where I can find those brackets that go inside the slots? Or at least the dimensions of them? I would like to install some medium sized convex mirrors. I can barely see out of the current flat ones. And the driver seems to be falling apart. From what I'm seeing I'll probably have to cobble them together myself. Also do you guy's know what that screw on slot is for next the plugged slot?

I might have some of the brackets to fit into the slots on the door. I’ll have to check and I’ll get back to you. No ideas what the other bracket is for. I don’t think it’s anything original for the truck. Someone added something at one time. Doug.
I’d guess the other bracket was for a stabilizer bar to go up to the front overhang on a slide in camper. Based on the large mirror and hooks on the side of the bed the truck had a damper at one time.
It did have a camper. We got rid if it years back. Would have been cool to keep it but it needed a ton of work and I just didn't have the space. Thanks.

I ordered some of those mirrors from LMC truck. Man I can't see anything out of them. The driver side is just as bad as the passenger side. Each eye sees a different image because the mirror is so close/small and not convex. The passenger side I can see either a portion of a the truck or a single spot on the road. I ordered the convex glue on mirrors from LMC, but I guess they forgot to send them. I might just buy some rectangle convex mirrors I found on amazon and use the LMC arms. I want to see how those convex glue on things work though. Their site doesn't really give much information. And when I tried to order a catalog it said I failed the captcha but there was no captcha.
Beside not being able to see out of them, they seem very well made. Nice and heavy with a bright chrome finish.

That’s why I have the swing lock mirrors on mine. I wanted to actually be able to use them.
Yes you can't see much with those small mirrors. That's why I change them out with larger mirror heads. You can see my YouTube video below.

Great video. I'll update if LMC ever sends those glue on convex deals. If that doesn't work out I was thinking about trying these amazon mirrors.
I feel like they might be a little too convex. They are also a little bigger than the ones you used. They might look goofy. I like the style of yours with the ridges on the backsides. I can figure out the mounting with some vise and file machining similar to what you did.
