I have a set of 10x16.5-8 on 6 1/2 like that, what the heck did you do to get them like that? I like!!!!! Can you do that to "hurricane" finned rims too?
I picked up the wheels for my Chevelle yesterday and today with all the frustration at work, I decided to have some "me" time. I refinished one wheel before I started building one of the lounge chair frames. If I don't get any parts tomorrow at work, I'm gonna hit these chairs hard and see if I can finish two or three up.
Here's how I got the wheels....
...and here's the after picture....
I only see one pic in your post but there is now to in mine,
First, I washed the wheel. Then I wet sanded the wheel with 400 grit wet or dry. Then I hand polished it with Mother's billet polish. Simichrome used to be the ticket, but that stuff is super hard to find anymore.
I don't know if I can do that with hurricane wheels. I was going to try and do something with mine. If they turn out decent, I'll let you know. Oh, by the way, it was a trick photo. I didn't actually snap a before picture. Since they all looked about the same, I just got another wheel and laid it next to it. The one I polished was actually the worst one of the bunch. I wanted to see how good they would come up.
I don't like clear coat. WHEN it starts to lift, (and it will) it'll turn white. I just leave them raw aluminum and keep a coat of polish on them. Even sitting out in the weather, once a month is enough to keep the shine up. If you keep it inside, every two months is plenty to keep them shiny.
good morning missouri...slept in kinnda late today..long day yesterday...cerp have ya got the blazer home yet ?........ alan nice job on the wheel's..i was thinking if i polish the ones on mine, i may try something called shark hide i seen the advertize on the car shows on speed channel they say it protects aluminum very well..but they would not tell ya that it didnt work would they..ha ha ha
Yeah, on the hurricanes, I may start with acid to get the etched part in between the "turbine blades" clean. Either that, or I'll bead blast them, then do the same process on the parts that should be shiny. It took about two hours for that one wheel. There's no shortcuts here guys. You have to invest the time. Thanks for all the compliments.
Nice job on those wheels. I did try a spot on one of the wheels that are on Ka'Bluey, Can tell a difference for the better, it was still on the truck so there's limited things that can be reached. Need to get them super clean then go at it like you did.
Brian that sucks about your chebby
G mernin all. the lug nuts for my dent are finally confirmed to gonna ship this week. Last night I bought a 55 gallon drum of polyester fiberglass resin, I have no clue how much cloth and mat and other fiberglass supplies. Looks like I might start making my bodies sooner than I was expecting. Tonight, I'll edge in the 70 Mustang 'vert, clearcoat a desk for my wife's aunt and hopefully install the new rockers on the 65 Mustang. I might even get some rest tonight. Earthquake, you've got me more inspired to do something with my slots, I sanded and polished one of them last fall and then got busy with client stuff, I might get a chance to mess with mine again this weekend.
yeah tell me about it. should be able to get it home tomarrow then i have to try to find out it ifs fixable. My luck it won't be. Guess the knock came from the head gasket causeing it to take out the rod bearings or crash the drive train
