i am new to this site but have been reading posts for a while now, i have read that somepeople are having check engine lights going on for air box issues, my truck has been in the dealership twice for this they say there is moisture in the air box therefore making the check engine light come on.They tell me there is currently no sollution for this problem and to go on my way its been one month now driving it this way and its very frustrating because the truck has no power once its up to normal operating temperature not to mention im sure its sucking more fuel, the dealership says they are up to 11 trucks like mine with the same problem does anyone have any info on when ford will have this corrected?

 

I have this issue (if this is the same one) and it is a nox sensor. Ford has the solution but is awaiting EPA approval before it is sent out. It's annoying to say the least. having a 55K truck with 5k miles and the damn check engine light is on.

 

They told me it was moisture in the air box it did this twice in two days and twice to the dealership to clear the code and put new air cleaners in to only have it come back on its been a month now i have checked the air box myself twice and found no moisture in it whatsoever the bad part is the truck is a sled!!! Thank god i havent had to pull anything

I am having the same issue Boyer told me it is a PCM Calibration issue and FMC engineers are working on it. Boyer told me it is a temp issue. When the outside air temp compared to air temp at the air sensor is off by more than 20 degrees it throws a code. The loss of power SUCKS! I have about 800 miles until I go in for an oil change and hope they have the solution when I go back in.

 

I checked with North Country Ford yesterday they still have heard of no fix from Ford engineers yet they are as frustrated as we are cause they hear us complain and dont know what to tell us Ford is telling them to dry out the air boxes and put a new filter in ive done that twice and didnt even get to champlin before it came back on so as far as i know per yesterday still no solution sure is fun getting crap from my old Duramax buddies!!

rickatic, Ithink this problem is a little bigger than you think there is 11 at my dealership alone and from what i am reading there are quite a few elsewhere.I mean no disrepect but this is a big deal when you rely on these vehichles for your living the problem is the dealers tell you that they know nothing maybe Ford should be telling their dealers more info, I find out more on this site than anywhere else,until you stated that the fix has been found pending EPA approval that is the first I;ve heard and ill bet you my dealership would say the same

 

My CEL was off for a whopping 11 miles

 

I took my 2011 to the dealer back in Dec/10 for a nox sensor. They replaced it and the cel came back on within miles. It stayed on for 2-3 days, then all of a sudden, while towing 10,000 lbs the cel went out and has never come back on. ??? Makes a guy wonder for sure. Its been off for 2 1/2 months now with temps from +2C to - 35C. Anyone else seen this?

 

I could only wish mine has been on for over a month with a big loss of power maybe i should go out and hook up the camper!!! LOL

 

I apologize that my reponse was taken as insensitive. I did not intend it to be. I had the engine fan clutch fail on my new truck at 3500 miles...when it is your truck it matters!!!

I am a little concerned about your dealer though...if they have 11 trucks out of their one shop and are unaware of the real issues, what else do they not know? The EPA pending fix has been known about for at least a month. If I had 11 guys driving $60000 trucks with CEL's on, I would be all over the problem. If they were, they would know. If they know and have not passed on the news, shame on them.

This is the best site around for accurate information about these new engines. I wander around the web a bit and no others compare. I am glad you found FTE...maybe your dealer needs to find us too

I can tell you for a fact i find more out from you guys than anybody else!!! I am so glad i found this site, i will be calling my dealership tomorrow to find out if they know that or not,i sure hope it comes soon cause im sick of the crap from my ex Duramax buddies, i think there just jealous!!LOL It would be nice to have my 400Hp back again thats the frustrating part, I still love the truck!!

Do any of your DuraMax buddies have a 2011 truck? If they do, it is far more likely they will have a similar problem as yours. GM has a much larger DEF/CEL issue than Ford. Larger in scope and in geography. GM's trucks go into limp mode when it happens. If they do not have a 2011, they are just envious...JMO...heres a link to a long GM thread:
