The yellow check engine light came on last night on my rig. No idea why but I have not seen the exhaust regenerate in a while so I assume it is an emissions problem. Ran a vehicle health report and it said to make an apt ASAP so I just did online and am getting ready to drop it off. Anyway, what a pain in the azz. Wife now has to bring me into work EARLY. I need to be seated in briefing by 0700. She is going to love that LOL.
It seems to run good. In fact, I got 22.3 mpg going to drop it off at the dealer (with a slight back wind of course lol). I think it is the DEF system.
UPDATE: Dealer just called me and said that it was a knock sensor. Dealer also said that Ford is aware of the problem (created by extreme cold conditions he told me) and that Ford is working on a solution. I asked the dealer why it happened on a 40+ degree day when it has been in the negatives without any problems LOL. Anyway, sounds minor so they reset the lamp. I will pick her up in the morning.
That could be what mine is doing as well. The light just comes on but the truck feels as it is running fine. I get the light cleared and it comes back on in 10-20 min.
The code is a P164A, not sure on a description as the closest Ford dealer is 100 miles from me. But I do have a appointment to hopefully get it taken care of on Thursday, the dealer is hoping that Ford will have a flash to fix the random CEL lights by then.
The fix has been completed. Ford is waiting for EPA approval before they can update the computer. I would wait until the fix is approved before I would drive 100 miles to see if the dealer has it. JMO
There have been no signs of a bigger problem to date. The issue is extremely small in numbers...no big deal according to Ford...Right, unless it is your truck
Mine just started the same thing. There is a TSB for the issue (it's actually a code for a NOx sensor), and it indeed says they are working on a calibration update to address it. My light came on towards the beginning of a 3 hour trip, but the truck seems to run fine. It was below zero the night before and in the single digits when I first started the truck that day. The light came on after the second start of the day when the temps were in the low teens, however the truck had been run in those temps before without any issue.
As I see this, the problem with the NOX sensor is being addressed with a software calibration that will "widen" the parameters that tell the computer to turn on the light. With the new software there will not be a CEL. These are my terms and I am not a computer guy. IMO, this is not even an engine problem. Ford has been all over this. The fix is complete. Let's get the EPA out of the way, and get the nuisance CEL turned off forever.

Thanks for the advice, but I have to go over there for other stuff anyway. So I figure I will stop by and see what the dealer says. Also see if they would be will to turn down the TPMS air limits.
I like to try to get multiple things done when I have go that far for a supposed simple fix.
I will sat that was a huge pain with my 6.4, glad that beater is gone.
I picked her up a few ago and also had the new tranny TSB installed. Seems the shifts are smoother now but I will have to wait until I get some miles on her to find out if there is a significant difference.
