When i left for work this morning at 4:30 it was 65 when i got to work bout 5:25ish it was 50 by 8 it was 40 and a good 35-40 mph wind going down the Flight line/runway at MCAS Cherry Point made it miserably cold
so i'm thinking colors now. while the body is still somewhat rust free i'd like to coat it in bodyliner. chances are it will end up black because i am cheap and black is generally the cheapest color. but i'd like to have a 2nd color for the rims or at least the lip of the rims to break up all of the black, and as something to paint the other stuff like brackets and such. i'm not looking for anything fancy, just don't want the whole thing being entirely black and plain. the wife objects, but i'm thinking black cab and "flatbed" with a bright lime-ish green color for the accents, kind of like gravedigger's paint scheme. it seems like the best combo of colors to me. any suggestions on another color that would look good with black?
and does anyone have a suggestion for a good cheap black bedliner? cheap being more important than quality i guess.
and do you guys have any idea how much is needed to coat a front clip and whole cab by any chance? most of this stuff is sold in bed kits or by quarts and gallons.
so after a little more reading up on it the body liner might not be the best idea for a truck that will be smashed through trees. says it doesn't touch up very well.
We did rhino liner on a truck of my friends and it worked great. Touchup was easy as can be as well. The only thing I would recommend would be to make sure you get some stuff with the UV protectant otherwise its gonna fade and crack like a mother. It was like three of the gallons I think but we did the whole truck. Make sure you do light coats and lots of them. We did like three coats or something and it has held up well for like 4 years now and he drives the truck everywhere. Not rock crawling or anything but the occassional feild and mudd pit. It wasnt the real rhino liner it was bed liner I can't remember what the exact brand we used was but it worked well. Oh and if you want it to it usually works better if you shoot it with a black undercoat before you put the liner on it. All in all we are happy with it.
thanks dave, as i sent you that text i actually remembered the brand name right after, and the local sears carries it in stock. might go that route and possibly try my hand at spraying it. my buddy mike has a big enough compressor and harbour freight sells cheap guns. i'm sure it will look like ****, but hey you gotta start somewhere. the wife even has a ton of experience masking vehicles off. when she lived in texas she had a friend who's dad used to paint cars for a living and he would pay them in booze to tape off cars when he was overbooked.
and eventhough i ordered my rims from two different places all four of them just showed up 10 minutes ago. woooooo wooooooo!!!!!!
all 4 are stamped 15x10, 2 made in china, 2 made in the u.s.
EDIT: yes i do jesse. the guy with the tires and axles is gonna get a few calls. i'm not very good with saving and holding on to money, so i kind of need those parts soon or i'll end up broke when he finally has em' out of the truck.
p.s. i even quit drinking as of yesterday in an attempt to not blow what little truck money i have left, even filling out some job apps online for a few places friends might be able to get me in at. trucks, my anti-drug
