Yep. 1957 was the first year Ford outsold Chevrolet in over a decade, with a record 1.67 million cars sold that model year. Also in '57, the 25 millionth Ford V8 engine was built. And the new 'fridge' F-series took 31.3% of the truck market.
My SWAG is that is a Wisconsin four cyl air cooled powered welder or compressor and I don't see an air filter intake large enough for a compressor. I think someone converted the Wisconsin to run on two and compress air on two.
