How is that a fail? I just commented on how you call us idiots but then you are not smart enought to thing to put the fuel cell in the far back of the bed so that you can put fuel in the truck without having to climb on top of a tire and stand on that sheet metal "bed".
Kirby, as usual your abortion has had a continual string of fails. Tell you what, make everyone happy and off youself. I'll even donate the money for you to go buy a bullet to bite.
i wasn't trying to insult him. i was actually expecting a civilized response back, which he felt too cool to give me. i actually like the bed to an extent, but putting the fuel cell where it is is kind of asinine to me, was hoping he'd give an explanation of how it came to be....

That was the original design but I found this 22 gallon tank for cheap. Its oriented long-ways and set as far to the rear as possible between the side boxes.

But, I have the same question as DAN.
PS; did you add a crossmember where you lopped off the rest of the frame? Looks kind of flimsy there.
The bed and frame rails are connected by the 36x18" (approx) 1/4" thick plate (same "sheet metal" the rest of the bed is). The frame rails are completely welded on both sides as well as the bed deck. Also I bent 2 2.5" tube into a 90 that connect the bed deck to the frame rails between the gas tank and the rear plate.

I haven't been able to do as much testing as I'd like but so far I'm satisfied with the "incomplete" but "wheelable" product. I'm still fighting frame flex and the rear suspension isn't flexing much because we added some leaves to compensate for the rear end being low. (Even with the shackle flip) Plans are to begin boxing the frame as well as remove some leaves. To add the lift back to keep the truck level, I'm going to move the springs to directly under the frame rails like the front. Moving the springs inboard, in theory, will also add flexibility because the axle will have more leverage to compress the springs. A rear bumper, shocks and an anti-wrap bar are in the near future.
Designs for bumpers and a roll cage are complete keeping in mind rock sliders and an exo cage will follow. I'm currently shopping for some used suspension seats and harnesses. Then I'll begin saving up for a grizzly locker and a doubler. I've also been researching hydraulic pto winches, which seems very doable. Oh, and some extra hp's wouldn't hurt either. I'm thinkin' a timing set, an rv/offroad cam and a good pair of headers may help with low end power. Can anyone with real 460 knowledge recommend a decent cam? I don't want to up the stall.
ps I drove to the gas station over the weekend and it wouldn't make a damn if the gas cap was at the rear of the bed or not. I had to climb up there anyways...
