1/2" thick x 1.5" wide flat bar.

or you can buy some drop shackles like Nick said.....

you WANT lowering shackles because they are LONGER to lower the vehicle with the frame hangers in the correct position. When you flip the hanger they become lift shackles.

See how easy that works?

1/2" thick shackle? Wouldn't 1/4 be more than enough??

no.....thats not it at all.....me personally i would work on more important things, you can buy shackles for as cheap as you can build them.

Don't the super duty springs, shackles and hangers use a metric bolt size ? If they do they might not do you any good with the '79 spring's sae through bolt size. There could be a hole size mismatch.

i just orders so 2" lowering shackles off some random website. There 3" wide for a 66-81 ford f250 or 350, but i had to buy them cause i could find ones for f150 that were 3" wide, so i need as much lift in the back so i dont have to run any block, im just going to make rear sky hangers. that fit the ones i bought.
