boredom, just thought it would be a fun weekend project, usually dont work on my truck on the weekend, just hang out, but just thought it would be fun.
ya kept my entertained for the day. had nothin better to do with my self. i really wish i had a plasma, that would of been super nice, you think it still looks gay?
Was that cover burried in the mud for a while? That thing is pitted more than Cheeto's pimple covered ****! Oh and you need to practice on your welds. The reason on didn't have any heat issues is because you didn't get good penetration into the steel. Notice how the beads sort of bubble up on top and not melt into the material? smack it with a hammer and you'll more than likely crack those welds.
you want me to take a picture on the botom of the cover, i have really good penetration, not trying to make excuses at all, the guys welder i use he runs.023 wire for some strange reason and it welds alot different than .035 that i use on the school welders
Not trashing your work, and it could be the pic. What kind of welder did you use again? Stick or mig? Are the welds smooth down into the steel or do they sort of stand up on top? You may see heat marks on the inside, but that doesn't mean you have good penetration into the material. Use this whole thing as a practice for your welding skills.
the guys got a miller 150 mig, im trying not to be a smart ***, but i weld for 3 hours a day in school. we run .035 and .045, .023 isnt made for this thick of steel, more like body work type sitution or so. you cant turn up the wire speed enough to make a nice even weld on this thickness of steel.
Yeah, too small of a wire and welder for what you are doing. Do youreself a favor and search out Craigslist in your area and get you a decent welder. You are going to need it for the rest of this project.
well its an older miller, it can weld thick stuff, its a nice welder, just if the guy ran .035 like a normal person. ya ive been looking, i was a moron and missed a sweet auction yesterday that had a millermatic 251 which i what, our school has them and i really like them. come to think of it a million dollar fab shop just went out of business and i think they ran millers, and i know the guy so i think im gonna give him a call and see what he can cut me a deal on one. but right now personally, all i have is an ol buzz box and a junk clarke flux wire welder, and i have survived.
very true statement. gosh i just figured...ahhh no sense in buying one ill just make my own, easily. FAIL I think i could get this one chromed then sell it to some loser maybe for like 100 dollhairs haha no its going in the scrap pile
