hey are u still running the stock fan of the motor if u are maybe u should get some electric ones so we can see the gain from doing so and itd be some cheap hp
the pulley kit was a 3 piece and uses the stock size belt. every dyno i have been to give you a a print out of the numbers and a graph. i can post them but i dont know how and i need to learn because i know people will be wanting to see these next dyno's. can some one PM me and tell me how. Thanks
4wheeling,
I don't know if you figured this out yet, but I just found this thread that gives a great tutorial on how to post pics in a thread. I'm going to try it in another thread, hopefully it will work.
Thanks gmk035 i will look at it.iwill order my headers tomorrow i am going with the hedmans and i am going to get them ceramic coated here in town for 75 bucks. i dont know what converter i will go with liening towards a magnaflow and a 70 series flowmaster.
Nothing new yet i do have the Throttle body ready to go but i am going to do that install after the headers. I got a steal on my hedman headers brand new and saved me 75 dollars. i am going to take them to get ceramic coated this week i hope i can get the time to install them in about 2 weeks. i have to play the waiting game now
Beamed,
It might be easy to check out how much power it takes to run the stock fan by simply making a dyno run with the fan running (I would assume that the fan would be on when the motor is making max power) and then making a run with a large fan blowing through the radiator (if it could keep the temperature low enough so that the fan clutch doesn't engage). That would at least give you a good idea how much power the mechanical fan is using. I don't know how you would figure out how much power (mechanical power being converted into electrical power) the electric fans consume, but it is definately a good question.
I forgot to mention that this Saturday (4/11/09) on Horsepower TV their show is "Building a classic Ford 460 motor on a rock bottom budget" which fits right in with this thread. The episode will air at 11:00 EST (I don't think it is a repeat). I think it will also air on Sunday. By the way, only seven more views till this thread hits 1000! Nice job 4wheeling!
Beamed, I am still runnig the stock fan i have thought about an electric fan but it will definently have to wait. unless i come across a real good deal on one as my budget will be completly blown after the MAF upgrade.
gmk035 thanks i will be sure to watch horsepower TV this weekend. I droped off my headers and Y pipe today to get coated going to charge me only a 100 dollars to do it all can't wait should be ready tomorrow.
you can get a whole "junkyard" setup for like 65 bucks inculding the controller using a ford turas fan, i just wanted to see how much hp it really frees up im loving this thread now if someone could do it with a 351 lol but good luck heres a link for a fan setup https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...n-install.html
Nothing new yet still waiting on my headers to get coated its no telling when they will get done. I ordered my new magnaflow catalytic convertor should be here monday. I did how ever today take my trac loc out of my rearend today. I swaped the clutches around and tightened it up i now have posi trac once again. i should have the headers, all new exhaust and throttle body installed and dynoed in the next 2 weeks. I hope?
Well i have had a change of plans on my upgrades. I was ready to put my headers on but my oil pan is leaking worse. i now have a antifreeze leak on my timing chain cover and i found where at one time i had a head gasket leak. So the motor is coming out and i will give it a quick freshing up job and maybe a little port work. And i will for sure put in a better cam (any ideas) The only thing is this will change my dyno numbers when i go back. But it will all be for the better
