well i got the motor out and torn a part. Every thing looks very good no wear on any thing. one cylinder had 2 thoughsands wear so every thing will go back standard. I have decided to replace the pistons also. I have started porting the upper and lower intake and i will start on the heads tomorrow. http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/k...0/stock460.jpg I decieded to go with a comp XE256H-14 cam it has a .490 .495 lift and 212, 219 duration should pull strong in the lower to mid range. My goal is to get 300hp and 450tq to the rear tires and i think this is very doable now that i am doing a total rebuild.
Well i got my upper intake modified and ported i will get a pic up tomorrow. i started on the lower intake but not finished yet. I have got one head half way ported. by the way these fuelie heads do not need a lot of work as they have a pretty strait shot to th valves. one very interesting thing i found is that the fuel injectors do not have a strait shot down the runner. they spray half way on the intake side of the head on the top.http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/k...60/460head.jpg Here is a pic of it the hole on the left is unported if you look close at the bottom you can see a dulled spot where the injector was spraying. i opened the runners up past that pont and rounded the edges. I don't know how much good it will do but its got to help.
have u checked out project mpg? search google for it, some interesting info there. most u already have done but its a good read and what they did could apply to anyone.
i have checked out project mpg that is what started all this. lol I got a pic of my upper intake that i ported and modified.http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/k...pperintake.jpg I dont know how much it will help but its got to do some good.
4wheeling, are you installing the cam before you do your mass-air conversion? I've never known what to believe about how far you can go with SD before you need to convert to MA, so I would be curious to see how it runs with SD and MA.
I am going to do the rebuild add the cam, headers and new exhaust. Then go to the dyno get a good number put down and then add the new throttle body. Then i will install the mass air and redyno. that is my plans any way i will not ever know exactly what the headers and new exhaust is worth. But i can probaly get a good estament. I don't think a cam alone will mess with the SD too much but the port work i bet will.
that is a really really really tiny cam for a 460 with ported junk on it! i would have stuck with the xe-274 that's what i have in my t-bird with a 390 and it's a little undercammed
but you do still have fuel injection so i don't know how it'll mess with that
Hey guys! I have a 1996 4X4, F-350 w/460, & C-6 auto with K&N cold air intake, no mass air sensor. Where can I get a performance chip for my ECM/computer? I purchased a Hpertech programmer only to find out that I couldn't use it. If my truck had been a CA truck, then it would have worked. Also, the 1997 F-350 would would accept the programmer. Looks like I am going to have to make some mods also, according to what I have seen here now. Any suggestions will be appreciated! BTW, what would be the best cam? How does the bigger throttle body work out? +
i didn't mean junk as in not working well i meant junk like as another word for things lol i call all my trucks/cars my junk don't take it personally
i just don't like how you can't run a big duration cam with these fuel injected trucks seems to me by running a factory fuel injection computer on a motor like that is leaving power on the table, in my opinion the fuel injection really limits what you can do with your cam, i mean you can't run a LUMPY cam with huge duration for top end power with these trucks
but still that cam your using is tiny i mean i'm using a 300 intake/ 310 exhaust adv. duration, duration @ .050 of 224 intake and 234 exhaust, Valve lift of .496 intake and .520 exhaust, Lobe C/L is 112 cam in my truck and i've only got a 302, the more cubes you have the more cam you want because the cubes make the cam seem smaller
edit: i just saw you want 450ft-lbs of torque and only 300hp so that cam might be what your looking for but you could probably reverse those #s with a bigger cam

you cant do much with a stock carb either....
fuel injection has endless possibilities when going aftermarket, just like when you go to an aftermarket carb. im going to be swapping a 70 dodge dart to fuel injection this year and im sure it will run better 1/4 times
