Ed: I'd make a terrible parts man. I couldn't stand to bend people over that way on parts.
And I think I'm a bad 7.3er. I drove dad's 6.0 down to Advanced Autoparts to grab a new wiper blade for it and I couldn't stop smiling the whole way there and back.

Probably because it's not a pink 4 banger...
bend over?
Taking Petey to school. hold on could get bumpy.
dealers get a 40% mark up, or cost plus 67% = net 40% margin.
100% mark up = 50% net gross
if I bought a part for $1.00 sold it for $2.00 I made 50%
so if I sold a $175 water pump it cost me $105 I made $70 or 40%
now, pay rent, phones, payroll, gas, trucks, workman comp, insurance and every other thing there is to keep a business going and if you make 5% to 10% you are doing good.
so bending people over. nah
and on-line at wholesale price like I sell at, cost plus 20% I net 16.5% before expenses.
every industry there is has to make a profit. If you don't, you my friend would not make a pay check.
talk to big oil they are the ones that make big bucks and are bending people over. ever notice how they all shut down there plants for maintenance right before summer and then price of gas goes thru the freaking roof.
and the next qtr they post billions in profit, why the rest of the country is suffering. I really think big oil started this economy in the downward slide were in with price of fuel last year. IMO
but if you choose to work for free, I will hire you right now!
but if you would like to make a paycheck, do not be affaid to make a profit.
Just be the best at what you do, and the rest takes care of its self.
The Deere dealership my brother worked at had a 100% markup on all parts.
That's pretty high, but when I was working this summer and I was filling out an order sheet I happened to notice the unit pricing for the cases of stuff. Then I figured it out and we had something like a 350% markup on jars of stuff.
Starting next week, all of my hourly workers (except CNC and fabricators) will be working 32 hour weeks.
You should have seen the long faces when I told them. These are guys that are used to getting 20 hrs of OT a week and bringing home FAT checks. My lowest paid guy makes $18/hr and with OT they kill it. I know, I used to be one. I feel their pain but at the same time am sure glad that I got promoted and went salary back in September. My checks now more than equal what they used to be when I was working all of those weekends.
Now we just have to wait this slow down out.
Well, maybe now you'll have time to send a ceartain someone a ceartain CD...
We had a plant in Trinidad, CO that did testing and distribution to the Colorado oilfields. Business was so slow that we closed it down and laid everyone off last week. All of their work is coming here to Willis now.
Yeah, it's pretty bad in the oilfield biz right now. Permits dried up. Hopefully, some 3500 and 3600 rebuild business will come our way next year when hours are up.
