Part VI
Ok newest development. I am having some behavioral issues with Mattie. All of a sudden, she has decided that she doesn't have to listen to me anymore. I ask her to go outside, she ignores me. I tell her to sit, she ignores me. I tell her not to do something or do something, in general she does the opposite of what I ask her to do.
Its not as though she doesn't understand me - this dog speaks fluent English. This morning she got a good swat on the butt because I asked her to go outside and go potty, she ignored me, ran into the living room, and started chewing on her bone. She hadn't gone to the bathroom in 10 hours or so (overnight) and I knew she had to go.
She has also started to do something that is really bothering me: she goes into the kitchen, grabs a mouthful of food, brings it into the living room, and spits it all over the floor. She eats some of it, but a lot of it gets left and she'll run back into the kitchen to get more. She absolutely refuses to go into the kitchen and stay there to eat her food unless I am in there with her. WTF? How in the heck do I communicate to her that this behavior is not okay?
This dog was perfectly well behaved when we moved out here from Denver. Do you guys think the addition of Randy has something to do with all of this?

Joe, I like to see prices like that, back the way it should be, finally(diesel cheaper than gas). Wonder what the $1+/gallon more for so long was all about

Jay, no life here, just not posting much.
Lisa, don't know what to say. Could be Mattie feels Randy is getting more attention than she is. Could be Matie's way of saying "pay more attention to me" I see this in my kids quite frequently, pay one more attention than the others and and the others will act out to get your attention.

Bwahahahhahha
Sorry. That was not constructive at all.
Wish I had a good answer. Could be jealousy or maybe she is not feeling well. Dogs can get some strange behavioral issues when something is going on physically with them. Has she been to the vet anytime recently?
As far as her position in the pack...Joe you make a good point.
I keep trying to explain to Randy that the rules for her need to be reinforced all the time. Bulldogs are "bullies" and will get really pushy with you if you don't retain your dominancy over them. He is really lax with her and lets her get away with things that he shouldn't - ie he lets her beg, jump up on him, or when he is walking into a doorway she'll trip him up so she can get through the door first, which is a behavior I worked on with her for about a month after I rescued her. She is supposed to heel at all times.
It seems as though all of the training we did just completely went out the window in the past month.
Jay Mattie went to the vet about 2 months ago.
Anything not worth splitting for firewood is going on a large pile to be loaded up and hauled away to our tub grinder.
Anything worth splitting for firewood is getting bucked and cut into manageable lengths then it's all getting stacked up until we cut it to the proper 16" lengths and split it all.

We do have a gas powered splitter. That takes a lot of effort out of it.
My bro sells firewood so we're all set up to make firewood.
He's got a Mingo firewood marker with a 16" wheel so that makes marking lengths a lot easier.
The most anoying part is getting to the nasty old trees. They're all covered in thorns that HURT.
I forgot to bring home the steel blade attachment for the KM110. It's basically an x shaped steel blade with sharpened edges that goes into what is essentially a weedeater head.
