Well I just went online and used up a gift certificate I got over Christmas for Plow and Hearth. I bought one of those upside down tomato planters....so we'll see how well that works.
This spring/summer is going to be kind of a bummer. I love to garden but I don't want to put a bunch of work into a yard that isn't mine.
Even still I worry about my rose bushes and lilac bushes at my old house...LOL!
Hey Lisa, when we moved I lost all my roses...that sucked, I should have just left them where they were but I wanted them with me. I was only able to save one out of maybe 20.... We got a surprise cold snap and it hit the leaves and killed them....The only one that survived was my favorite one, Jackson and Perkins...called the "Playboy"...
Imagine that.....lol
EDIT- just saw the pics... I am more than ready for spring...Cool pics! You'd like my moms house. She has over a half an acre dedicated to roses, edible veggies, dahlias, etc...It goes on forever....I'll look for some pics later.
Man, I wonder if I'll get all "green thumbed" when I finally buy a house.... probably not. It looks great, don't get me wrong, and maybe I'll change, but I've just never been in to it. Lisa, that does look wonderful, especially here in super-brown CO. Maybe that's it... growing up in MD we got so much rain, moisture, etc. you didn't have to do much. I like that!!

Bummer on the roses Brent. I couldn't take mine with me. The wild roses you see in the picture...are very well established bushes, probably as old as the house. They are huge. I started a few climbing roses, and got them to start to vine last year and even bloom, so those should be awesome this year as long as the owners water them.
Your moms house sounds awesome. Always wanted to do something like that. I got a catalog the other day that has all sorts of flowers and fruiting trees and bushes in it. Totally cool.

I didn't know I even had a green thumb. When I bought that house there was no yard, just dirt..and the roses were almost dead. I can't stand ugly so I started watering and seeding and pruning and putting in gardens. By the end of the summer it looked the way you saw in the pictures..and I got about 90% of the yard to come back. It was some hard work though, and you're right about Colorado...you have to water every night or everything dies. The flowerboxes especially, needed constant attention.
Never knew I could be a green thumb but its pretty gratifying to get something to grow and become beautiful.
Edit: Here is what the house looked like when I bought it:
yeah it's really nice there. She kinda dedicated her life to the house and yard and family. Too bad dad had other plans...anyways, thats another story.
She has fruit tree's everywhere also, so when your mowing the lawn you just grab what you want and go...lol.
One thing thats kinda cool, is there is an apple tree in the back yard, that has been grafted onto twice. The problem is, nobody is old enough to remember what trees where used so we cant duplicate it. They by far are the best apples I have ever had, hands down. dang, now I want spring and summmer really bad so I can go over there and pick them!
I was always out in the yard helping mom since I could walk so I naturally picked up the green thumb. I wouldnt have it any other way.
Hey Brendan, you know the convo we had the other day about waiting for people? AARRRGGGG!!!!!!!!! I'm sitting here waiting for a delivery of windows and doors that should have been here by 730..... In case I didnt say it then, I HATE WAITING FOR PEOPLE!!!! Nothing makes me more mad.
Mornin' peeps!! Been up since about 4am thanks to my Lab. I guess he has some stomach issues or something. LOL...
Nice plants, Lisa!! I don't go all out, but I do like to keep my place neat, trimmed, & green. I put in an in-ground sprinkler system after my first summer. I have a pic somewhere of my front yard from last summer, but nothing on my work PC. If I think of it I'll put it up later...
Okay -- just got done testing this morning and time to grab a bite to eat... Catch you all in a bit!

Brent, check out Stark Brothers. They have some really neat apple tree varieties.
They breed a tree called the Double Delicious...the tree actually grows both red and yellow apple varieties.
They also have a tree called the Heritage Delicious..supposed to be one of the tastiest apples you can buy.
