i have to admit that though I did not read all the material in the posts I did skim over them and I am having a hard time biting my tongue.
Yeah i hear ya on that. Me being a 20 year old who kills himself day in and day out to have what I have, hearing what is being said here is really pissin' me off, especially about Petey, but i'll just bite my tongue.

I have way too much to say and I have no desire to type it all here. Suffice it to say that I believe there is a little missunderstanding between what is meant and what is typed between Pete and Sheldon fo starters.
On the other hand, just because people aren't out doing physical, hard labor does not make them lazy. There have always been people better suited to different jobs based on physical and/or mental traits. The world needs people to do all kinds of different jobs. If we all wanted to dig ditches nothing else would get done.
I could go on and on but hopefully that makes a few here think a little further outside their boxes. A lot of these "lazy" kids can do stuff with computers and such that would make most of our heads spin. Good for them. That does not make them lazy, just suited to different work that someone else would not do.
There are lazy kids out there but to say "most" are is not fair.
To some I am a kid, to some I am an old fart. Take all that for what you will. Let the bashing begin.
I'm going to add my .02, because, well, as you all know, I don't know when to shut up.
Generation ME is a very real thing. We've evolved as a society, so much so, in fact, that we've created a generation of people who expect everything for nothing. Its a very obvious problem with the young people today. They are used to things being handed to them by their parents, and so when out in the real world, this type of behavior is perpetuated. Its unfortunate, because as a culture we're used to living through hard times: IE WWI and WW2, the depression/dust bowl, various market fluctuations throughout the years, food shortages, fuel shortages, Vietnam, Civil Rights...as a country we are very good at overcoming obstacles (you too Canada!). We've learned how to make our lives easier and BETTER so we can prepare ourselves for those things which we cannot control. Parents only want to give their children that which they did not have, and as a result, they essentially deprive their children of the KNOWLEDGE and independence of doing things for themselves, or the value of a job well done, or the pride of quality workmanship and hard work. Kids get complacent.
Before you guys crisify me, I will say this: I don't know ANY young person on FTE who perpetuates this, and most of you are prime examples of the way our young people should be behaving. All of you are hard-working, respectful people. It must be our "truck culture" in that maybe our parents took more time with us to teach us the value in things and raise us right. I know as a kid there were a lot of things that I wanted to have but never got, even though my dad was fully capable of providing it to me. At the time I didn't understand, but now I realize that what he gave me - appreciation for where things come from, work ethic, and pride in myself - is much more important.
As far as the discussion about "real jobs" and hard work vs working smart, I really have no comment about any of that. I think its important for a person to know how to muscle up and do something when it needs done, but certain technological advancements are here for a reason. We advance as a society because we invent more tools to help us do more and do it faster.
Just a few too many paragraphs from a redneck girl, raised by a redneck guy who worked his fingers to the bone every day of his entire life. I am grateful that he worked hard to give me things he never had, but I am also grateful that he knew when to say no so that I would learn how to become an independent contributor to society.
Lisa, that is about the best way to sum it all up.
i also feel almost all of the young people here (under20) are just as hard working if not harder working as us old folks.
but that is because we old timers are at a stage in our lives where we do not have to work as hard anymore due to the years we broke our humps to be able to take it easy for the few years we have left.
and just because we can now take it easy, that does not mean we will not go out there and bust our humps again to get something done, it just means we can now take longer to do it.
I have alot more to say on the subject too, but Pete doesnt wanna talk about it anymroe in here, and I respected that.
I sure have some feedback I could address, and I kinda think some people arent reading everything that is written.
Every single which way you look at it, it comes down to a hard work ethic, which alot of people in this new generation do not have.
As for thinking out side the box, like Pat said, I agree, I wish more people would do that, AND learn how to read everything!
I also dont think anyone should bite their tongues, if someones got something to say, man(or woman) up and say their piece. That way problems or misunderstandings can be addressed.
