I will agree that moston this site do not appear to be part of the me generation. Although there have been a few to fly through. They dont seem to hang though.
I also believe it started with my generation, I have met people my age that have that " what are you going to do for me " attitude. From my age and younger, alot of people have got worse. It is my hope that I do not ruin it for my kids and make them feel they are entilted to a good life. But at the same time, I find it hard to not give them everything I can.. double sided nickle.
That is the nature of things though Pat. Each generation hopes to make things better (and by default easier) for the next. Like Sheldon stated earlier life was WAY harder for his grandpa than for him.
The only thing I think im entitled to is the right to sleep with out being messed with when i am sleeping in my free time(ie: riding the bus, when ever im sitting at home not doing anything) but nope there is always some jack@** who thinks its so ****ing funny to mess with hard working people, who did more work in a day then they did all weekend, who just need a little more sleep because they didnt get enough from the night before.

Okay, right there, that there is kind of funny...sorry man,, I had to say it..
"Generation me" describes most of them, BUT........There are a lot of hardworking, quiet, responsible kids out there who make the grade. They are just far overshadowed by the spoiled, lazy, entitled ones............. Our parents and grandparents lived thru times that tempered them like steel, on top of things being much harder to begin with............If this economy totally tanks and we head into a REAL great depression, or another Adolf Hitler type descends the world into fire, we will see a lot of people who will have to step outside their comfort zone and grow up REAL quick! Most would make it, some not.
Sheldon maybe I seem like I'm lazy or not wanting to do manual labor and that is true. I'll avoid manual labor whenever I can. Machines can do work far faster than I ever could AND it saves wear and tear on me. Parts on a machine can be replaced far easier than parts can be replaced on me. That's what dad always says. Sheldon you've already had at least one knee replaced right?
Once you replace a joint it's never quite the same (says my mom the physical therapist) so I'm trying to avoid putting strain on my body when possible. Am I afraid of doing the work? No way.
Am I gonna shovel a pile by hand when I've got a skidsteer sitting right there ready for use? No. The machine can do it faster and I'm not wearing myself out. Simple. Dad's been doing this kinda work since he started his first company after he graduated highschool at 18. Now he's 52 and feeling every bit of it. Torn rotator cuff, bad back, had work done on one knee, and the doc says he's gonna have bad arthritis.
I don't romanticize manual labor. It flat out sucks. I don't mind it but like I said if you can do the same job faster with less effort you've increased efficiency and the more efficient you are the more profitable you are. In my mind the reason to go to work is to make money and the higher your profit the more money you make. Increase profit margins whenever possible.
I'm not saying my generation doesn't have an overinflated sense of self worth and entitlement. I'm also not saying I am immune from that either but I've also been working steady for the past 5 years (since I was 12) which is more than I can say for some adults.

I may be crazy (ok, no disputing that) but I am one of those people who actually enjoys manual labor. For some reason, if I am out all day gardening, or roofing, or movin stuff around, or shoveling, I feel "good". I mean I am worn out and tired and I usually find a way to smash a finger or something...but something about it is satisfying.

Hey Lisa, I have to agree with you on feeling good about doing manual labor. Maybe it is the way I was raised or the fact that I am crazy also.

There is somthing to be said for the feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day. That feeling goes away if you do manual labor for a living.

I'm all for making the work as easy as possible because that = mo money.
Still requires "hard work" and doing it your self no one is going to do it for you. Work smarter not harder.
