-25 out there with wind chill...-10 actual temp or something. Had I known it would be that could i would have given the diesel a little more time on the timer. I hope 2 hours is good. Hate starting it when its super cold, she'll start but sounds like a box of rocks.
Heya guys. How's it? I'm wishing it would snow here in W-VA! I want to see a minimum of 3 inches.. I just want to get the 4x2 quad and go slickin' on the streets! hehehe!
Bill - in what part of West-by-god do you live? That is an incredibly beautiful state, I think partly because once mining died out, there has been much development... so it's been left alone, which is AWESOME (in some ways at least). I don't know if it's still true, but I know years ago that some nationally ranked/highly competitive mountainbike & kayak teams trained in WVa because of the ruggedness and variety of terrain.
Lisa - Matt has a great suggestion and it works great for many people. I run with no music, partly because I run outside and don't want to get run over and partly because I'm used to listening for the dogs. Plus, I just like the quiet (since I'm out there around 4AM). These are a few things I do when I "train" to help my breathing:
1. Sprint. Short little sprints (20' - 50') will bump your pace and force you to breathe deeper, filling your lungs more. Once per mile is great. (Also the faster you run, the more biomechanically correct your stride becomes)
2. Take DEEP breaths in, then blow it all out. Again, it's stretching your lungs, just like when you warm up your legs. A few really deep breaths before you run, plus (like the sprints) once per mile is good.
3. Think that you're breathing smoothly. If your mind is saying "I'm gasping!"... guess what... you are. Catch-22 for sure, but start off your run thinking "I'll breath deep & smooth today.."
-25 is pretty darn chilly!! Today we should hit mid-50's so it's a wrench-spinning day for me! I think the new header panel will get trimmed, installed and will get a pretty little set of Harley lights tonight... I hope!
oh yeah, and if you call the Bass Pro in Denver and they don't do the IH knit caps, let me know and I'll pick one up for you at mine. They were $16 at my store.
Breck??? It has some decent runs but they groom EVERYTHING... UGH! Fresh powder? GROOM IT. WTF??!!! Groom your dog, but LEAVE THE POWDER ALONE!!! I like Keystone better, but Vail... my first time riding there, it had dropped 14" of fresh... China Bowl was just flat out, bomb-the-run, and if/when you bit... POOF!! No pain!!! REPEAT!! I'll be back in CO for next season for sure (hopefully some of this one too!) and once I'm there, you might just have to come for a visit!
g'mornin' y'all!!
Ha, yeah i hear ya man, but you have to remember what i'm riding out hear in the poconos, ICE. So i'll take groomed powder over ice any day ya know.

Oh, I know. I grew here in MD, but after 4 years of riding Key, Breck, A-basin, Vail, & Beaver () .... I can't do it back here. I have 2 complete sets of gear, so I left 1 out in CO with my buddy and have a season pass for those listed (10 visits to Vail/Beaver, unlimited at the others) so I'll fly & ride the whole week(end) rather than bash myself down Mt. Ice-in-yer-****

Hmm...makes sense. Never had a breathing coach before and I've never mastered it. Sounds more like psyching yourself into it...and I've definitely been psyching myself out. The second I start thinking about my breathing too hard, I get winded.
I will try both techniques tonight. Thanks guys.
Oh also on the hat, I think I'll request to go, and get a pink one for Cris. if I dont find them, I'll let you know!

Brendan I think I am going to try your tips out too. I seem to get winded when I shouldnt be winded yet.
My biggest problems with running, its very very VERY boring to me, since Ive got longer legs I tend to run way to fast, and I got shin splints a few years ago, and ignored them till I almost couldnt walk, stupid move by me, but it throws me off of running whenever I start up again.
Well, good luck is all I can say. I thought my seniority was going to protect me through this...guess not. Worse part is I can't get anyone to at least give me a secound look when they've advertised they're looking. I haven't given up, but things aren't looking great right now.
Keep doing what you can and I am sure someone will give you the chance you deserve.

Good morning Brenden. I would love to ski or try snowboarding out west somewhere. I have not skiied in years and have never boarded.
Nothing fancy about the weather here today, not to cold, not to warm.
Trying to get the week wrapped up today, and the year, I believe this to be my last day at work for the year. I will of course call several times to check in, but I dont expect any problems ( which isnt like me, I always prepare for the worse here ).. But this is it for the year..
Damn Pat, thats gonna be a nice little holiday for ya!
The next three days are going to be busy, My Grandmother had passed away on Sunday, it was unexpected. But at the same time.. well, she was 91, and going to be 92 in 2 months. She went in the hospital Saturday night because she couldnt breath well. That was an understatement.
You know, she was still riding a bike 3-5 miles a day up to the weather changed.
Anyhow, I could go on..But yeah, the next three days, maybe longer, will be busy, but after that, yeah Sheldon, it should be fun.

Shinsplints is very often caused by the wrong shoes. I have shoes for running, that's it. When I first buy them, I'll wear them around for a few hours, tops, just to get some flex in them. After the first run, they are strictly for running. Once all the miles are pounded out of them, they become yard-work shoes, then get tossed or recycled. Walking around in your "running" shoes causes them to flex in ways that develops different wear patterns, which affects your stride, and therefore your running efficiency. Ever get a sore lower back after a run? Think about it..
As for boredom while running.... i used to run with Logan. Watching him, you can't get bored. Even running alone, I don't think about running. I'll make up wishlists for Nyx, what motorcycle I'd love to own, or what I'd do with the winnings from a lottery. 2 rules: don't think about your running (you'll just mess up your stride!) and keep it positive.

It's been almost 20 years now...but when I was in high-school our church (along with another in town) would take the high school kids out to CO during spring break. Yeah I know, snow skiing instead of going to the beach??? Anyway, the year I got to go we went to Copper Mountain. Neat place for a kid from Arkansas. The most snow I'd ever seen until that point was a foot that fell here in a freak (and I do mean FREAK) storm one year. I'd go back today just enjoy the scenery and take the family for a get away.
29F this morning when I went out to fire up the truck...oops, forgot to plug it in last night. Add an extra 5 minutes to the routine while she (the truck) warms up.
