How's everyone doing this morning?
Glad you're feeling better. I want a mid-90's Drudge Cumapart. I know I know bla bla...I just want something different to play around on.

I still haven't bought my tickets. Amtrak raised their prices for December, I didn't buy my tickets early enough...so I've been brainstorming and considering driving the truck back. I haven't made my decision but I'll need to do so by Friday so I'll letcha guys know.

Do you want to build it yourself, or have it built? reason I ask is, I may be able to cut down your research time. I spent a lot of time getting quotes on garages from when I was going to have a garage built at my house in Denver. There are a few nationwide chains that'll cut you a pretty good deal if you know what to ask for. I had a quote for a nearly 1,000 square foot garage (big enough to fit 2 PSDs and a few quads/motorcycles) for about $13,000...that included the concrete slab, driveway, and electrical work.

Ahhhhh.... what a garage that would have been!!! With the current economy I imagine you might even be able to do it for a little less, but still...that sounds like a great price! I wonder what it would add to the price to have piping added for a heated floor? Probably be a ton cheaper just to get some crap electric blankets to lay on in the winter. Nothing like cold concrete to leach out the body heat...

Morning everyone!

Lisa said the D word, moderators, do your job.... haha

I just came back from a jog, I kinda forgot how good jogging in the morning feels! Going to look at a new/used weight bench with a squat rack today, and if its good I can work out a little more properly, and save my muscles a little!

Well, you know, if you had a GTG at your place, there is a chance some of us might know just enough about that kind of stuff that would get it off cheaper then the going rates.

As far as the heated floor, I would suggest water ( glycol or what ever ) I have seen a couple done in bathrooms, and after the first electric bill, they have not used it since. At least id you did it with some kind of fluid, it should remain heated, for longer, with less effort, and be gas controlled.

Yeah, definitely something that needs a lot of thought. I got my best price through Republic Garages Republic Garages. It was funny because they came back to me with a price of like $18,000....and then I told the guy my limit was $13,000..and suddenly they came back with a price that was just a few hundred dollars above that. Funny how that stuff works. The price difference was using manual labor to lay the slab and the driveway, rather than a concrete mixing truck.

Yeah...keep in mind this was before the economic slump...I'm sure you could probably do better now...companies are hurtin for business. The other companies I had quote were like $23,000!!!

I already had a big (free) garage heater I was going to hang in the corner to keep it plenty warm. No worries, I WILL buy another house, and I WILL have that garage...even if I have to hire Sheldon and Brent to come down and build it for me.

I mean i own the house, and am very young so i would love to stay in it, however i am currently entertaining 3 job offers, 1 actually right by Jeff in Yuba City, CA. So my issue is, do i really want to spend the money on this house now, ya know...

i was limited in garage size to lot space, and could only build a 24 wide by 26 deep. total cost was $8500 with slab and electrics. the only thing i forgot to do was put a natural gas line in for heat. i have the piping in the slab for radiant heat, but no access to gas to run the boiler.

Call the gas company, they will be more than happy to run it for you, the more you use the more money they make!

nope. this is past the meter, so it is a plumbers job. and there is no way i am going to try to poke a hole in a 18 inch deep 24 inch wide concrete footing to run the line in.

You should be able to bring the line up and go through the wall. At least you can in MN.

You are way ahead of the game for someone your age. Take it from someone who is just a bit older than you.

Yes, garages almost always pay for themselves x2...that is, if you can sell your house for what it's worth...which this day in age can be a bit of a challenge.

Yup same here Tom, it just has to be buried between the house and the garage, you can come up the wall into the garage. Just has to be big enough for the volume that the heater requires. I ran 1" from the tee that comes into the house 46' through the house, out the foundation wall and another 26' of 1" flexible gas line under ground to the 15,000 btu pool heater, it only required 3/4".
