I know I'm the low bidder. They acknowledge I'm the low bidder. The exact number I don't know quite yet. It has to be within 5% of my bid for them to consider it though.

Sorry about that Lisa, I logged off before I saw this. She did at first, but the reality of that job is more hand holding humans than animals. Lots of people bringing in sick/hurt animals and a lot of them need to be put down, so it about killed her. My sister is really a softie and that was hard for her to deal with. She is looking right now for a better environment to work in, like a higher end vet office.. More check ups and shots than hit and runs and putting them down. Emotionally its just too much for her.

Damn right!!!!! About the refusing to grow up part, Lisa and Cris are the bomb.

Julie hates it too I think, always rolling the eyes and making excuses for the way I am acting.. I wish she would just laugh me off like she did when we were dating.. Guess she's tired of me now...

I am pretty silly most of the time and I love to laugh. Heck, I got kicked out of a Toys R Us one time for riding one of those little scooter things that go faster the more you turn the handlebars from side to side.. I was also throwing those giant bouncy ***** at my friend Jackie....n that was only a few years ago.

I encourage Randy to be his stupid self...except when he starts doing things that might get him in the ER.

I will admit, I will probably die early because I am a compulsive worrier. I worry about everything, all day, every day, 100% of the time. I am not on any anxiety medication though so I suppose it isn't too severe.

I'm not sure if you ever watch the Simpsons..but there was this one episode where Santa's little helper kept getting in trouble for being a really bad dog...turns out he only understood Spanish.

</INSERT>
Lisa, I worry all the time, about everything too. Anxiety meds have been brought up to me a time or two. I dont take anything yet but probably should. I can worry so much I can make myself sick. Been that way since I was little. Recently, with the stress of business and lack of sleep with Claire, my blood pressure has been through the damn roof...Once or twice it was upwards of 180 over 120...Nice huh?? I know where you are coming from girl.

And I did see that episode of Simpsons, one of my favorites!

Pete, I know it sucks, and your probably more than pissed right now, I know, Ive been there. Heck, I'm there 2-3 times a month. Just take it as bid experience and learn for the next job. Everything will work out, just take a few deep breaths man...

What im getting at, is if they are allowed to take a bid thats within 5% of yours, then your not quite screwed yet.

I would be dissapointed for sure though, always sucks losing out on work.

Can they even disclose what the winning bid was? Are they required too? Is there a clause somewhere that says something like "lowest bid not necesarily accepted"?

Ive seen that in writing before up here for various things, it basically gives them the right to choose whoever they want, and nothing can be done against them.

Yes, but here's the problem:

There is no other work going out to bid. I don't want to throw down 7 grand on a machine I have no work for. Especially in this economy. ESPECIALLY since I can't pay it in cash up front.

This bid makes or breaks my lil startup business here.

I can always operate equipment for dad, but that's a $0.00 a year job...

Your going to laugh at this Sheldon but I started to pm you to offer to help you with the electrical planning on your new shop. They came in to do some tests on me and I spaced it out.

There were a few clauses.

1: Any business from the town of North Haven (Town who is bidding out the work) that is within 10% of the low bid is given the opportunity to match the low bid and get the job.

2: They reserve the right to choose anyone within 5% of the lowest bid for nay reason.

3: They reserve the right to reject any bid for any reason.

The other business is not out of North Haven (neither am I) and my bid was not rejected. I don't know their number, and yes I can find out. Freedom of Information Act FTW! Plus the project supervisor is friends with dad because he was project supervisor who we dealt with on roadside mowing.

The purchasing director made the call to go with the other company. Lazy azz probably just doesn't want to fill out new paperwork. The other company was the ones doing it from last year.

When dad spoke to him he said "You must be new. I did that job in the 80s and I did the roadside mowing for the town last year. All without issue. What seems to be the problem?"

Their BS excuse was that they didn't want to go with a new contractor because the old one didn't have any major complaints last year.

Really Brent!

My BP was 180/90 and they put me on meds...even upped the dose when it didnt drop below 140/80 at the minimum dosage.

Still no word from the cardiologist about the echocardiogram last week...but they did say give them 2 weeks...

I imagine if they found something bad I would have heard by now... not gonna 'worry' about it til late next week.

Ah yes Pete, i feel your pain when your just starting up, I really do. I am just starting up and havent yet had any problems like that, BUT you bet i sure will too. I just have honestly come to realize that if one guy out there doesnt want me to do his work, and wants someone else, there usually isnt much a guy can do about it.

Just keep your head up and on straight though man. If you can do that, the work will come for ya. Patience is your friend too, although it doesnt always seem like it!

Jim, thats cool of ya, I would love any hints/tips/advice when it comes time to wire my shop! I am gonna do all the wiring myself, and just get a buddy to sign off on it. It shouldnt be hard to meet the code up here for it either.
Light is one thing I want lots of. I plan on making a little office/coffee room area that is up off of the main area (not sure what they are called, but it will be upstairs) and that is the only place I would like a window in the whole shop, so she might get dark in there with not enough lighting.

I guess Pete you could always deal with things the Canadian way.

Up here if you have a problem with someone, you go have a fistfight, beat the hell out of each other, loser buys the beers, then you get a little wobbley, and enjoy the rest of the night, loser stays the loser, winner wins!

Understood Pete, makes sense to me. I hope you can get it to work out. There is another contractor in town here than can out sell me anyday, but he isnt licensed. So, his price is always less than me since he isnt legal. And yet, he tells a very convincing story about how he's trying to get on his feet, wife left him and he seems to get the job. When I say he's convincing, trust me he is, he even got me to work for him for a few days before I could see through his BS....

I'm glad they havent called then, might be a good thing.

I'm taking the "ignore it and it will go away" approach right now. I learned it from Cris....

Let's just say that if they get the job for sure there may be a concerned citizen watching the guy's crews to see if any appear to be illegals. And that concerned citizen may call the ICE if there appears to be any shady workers.

Well I'm off to sleep. I feel like crap cause I got like 2 hrs of sleep and I have a cold and I'm supposed to be running a 400hp whirlpool of death and destruction tomorrow. (Tub grinder)
