Hey everyone, I just thought I'd start my intro with that. My nerves are a little rattled right now LOL. Here's what happened... SO, I was checking my email in the team hooch, my laptop was dying so I went to our sleeping tent to get the power cord. Got back to the team hooch, and just after I plugged the cord in- BOOM!!!!- the whole damned tent shook. I ran outside to our parking area to see if i could see the plume of smoke from what I thought was an IED. I told my buddy to shine his light on the back of a humvee so i could climb up, 'cause it's darker than the inside of a bulls *** out here w/no moon. I jump on the roof, and all the sudden i hear what sounds like a rocket go off, and quicker that a skinned cat I jump off the roof and run to our tent, to get my flak jacket hehe. I run in yelling IDF IDF (indirect fire), and we're getting our flaks on, pistols strapped on,ready to go out the wire...... we meet back at the team hooch to get accountability for everyone. WELL, we soon learn that an MRAP hit an IED, and it thankfully was only a mobility kill, and no one was injured. I bet it scared the hell outta the Marines inside though. The crappy thing is that it happened on the road I drive down every day and I don't have the same armor an MRAP does. Man, the guys we're replacing didn't hear so much as a pin drop for the last 7 months, and in the last week there have been 2. The last one blew the whole independant rear wheel of a 7-ton- kinda the same way a Chevy's front suspension is- gone.... The flat bed was also pretty banged up. Well, it's springtime out here, and that's when all the chitheads come outto play. Game on!!!
I'm glad i can tell you guys about it, because I really can't tell my wife or family ya know...
Is that your first rocket attack, Danny? I went through about 18-20 of those where I was at. Shoot, I remember more than once having to cut a chat or two short so I could take accountability in our quarters (I was the dorm chief) due to the bastages shooting their crap into our base. BTW, my first one was MY FIRST NIGHT on base!! I was sick though, so I woke up just long enough to give my info to the outgoing dorm chief. LOL...
Yeah, there were a couple close ones, but most of them were duds or out by the runway where pretty much nothing else was anyway. They got lucky a time or two and got close to a building, and damaged a vehicle pretty good another time. They were chicken-chits though. They would set up their make-shift launcher, get two to four off, then run like little girls before our stuff was on 'em like white on rice. LOL.....
Fell asleep around 9 then got woken up to my mom calling around 10:30.... damn women is never up that late. I have no idea what she was calling for, everytime I answered my cell there was just dead air..... now I can't get a hold of her or my dad. I am about to give up and just go back to sleep but it's really bugging me as to why she was up so late.
Hope everyone else is getting a good nights sleep.
