My welds may never pass X-ray, but I get elected to do repair welding on hardened die blocks most often. Preperation is the key. If the plate is scaly take it to a belt sander and clean it up... nice and shiny is best. Do the edges too. If its over 1/8 and full penetration is required grind a bevel during the prep. In mild steel no preheat is required, but if you get into exotics research the preheat and postheat you can get away with. In preheating an oven is best, but a torch suffices in many cases. I actually like using tig/ stick combo's because you can use the foot pedal to vary the amps and feather the weld into more delicate features. I'd say you may be moving too fast, not letting the puddle fill enough, and have existing slag contaminating your puddle. I don't get along extremely well with 6010/ 6011 but it penetrates much more than 7018. Each rod has its uses....as well as processes. Be **** about chipping slag and brushing the weld between passes.... all slag comes out preferably not during the next weld pass. If you arwe welding hardened tool steel,,,, peen the weld while its hot with a chipping hammer,, it helps with stress relief....some of the blocks I have welded have run for years in stamping dies, others got the run out and bought enough time for a real repair.

lol. Please., don't try and freak me out or anything Mark.

there are not that many mice in this house. I have set traps elsewhere and the bait remains untouched. I think all I had was one mouse family under the sink cabinet. Its the only place ive seen scat either. What remains to be seen, however, is how many babies there are.

Unless they had an assload (not sure how much an assload is, guess it depends who's *** it is) of babies I would think you are nearing the end of the family.

Jacob, when i was in high school we had heavy crappy flip down helmets! no tig welder, one mig and no one was allowed to use it haha.
The farm recently upgraded to a Miller 251 MIG welder from an old lincoln stick welder wich we have on a trailered generator that we use to power the farm during poweroutages or for quick fixes around the farm. The school has 4 TIG welders, 4-5 MIG welders, 8gas welding stations, and 15 stick welders.

Excellent tip Ray. I will have to remember that one. My brain is already thinking of how I can build one using your light bulb idea!

Crap! According to wikipedia, the average mouse litter is 10-12 pups.

I have only nabbed 4 babes so far.

Does say that sometimes litter numbers vary, so it is possible I got them all, but I kinda doubt it.

That's all folks. For tonight anyway. Happy hunting Lisa, you're really doing a spectacular job catching them. Too bad you can't enjoy the publicity of it though. You could probably get on the five o'clock news. Eye in the sky and all that stuff. Good night.

I would imagine that it does. Did you get any glue traps? I wonder how many you can catch at once with them!

I haven't gotten any glue traps yet, figured I'd come home and see how the standard trap fared today. Also when I got off work it was dark, and for some reason that is just depressing..makes me not want to do anything productive.

Very nice Jacob, I bet you love that mig at your farm!

My mig is just a little one, it plugs into 110, can have the gas hooked up to it, but I just use flux core on it.

I know the feeling Lisa, DST su**s. Not only is it dark at 4:30 here add that to the cold setting in and it makes for one depressing senario.

Oh hell yeah! I love it like the brother I never had. I like welding with it every chance I get which lately has not been too often.

I hate how this moring it was 56* and sunny. I was pissed because it just did not feel right, because it is november it should be 35* and dark at 6:30 in the morning when I go out to the bus. that's the weather I want in November.
