Good morning!
Hey Dan, I was in Kenmore/Bothell yesterday and my wife took me to the Ranch Drive in? I think that was it. Man they got some good burgers!
Lee - So, i'm curious, what kind of range do you get with those sabots in contrast to a regular round? I only ask because I have no experience with them. They are illegal here in Colorado, but popular out in Iowa to where I am movin. Thought about putting a package through my Winchester just to see how much more accurate they are, and what kind of distance I can get out of them. What kind of smoke stick do you have?
I have a Knight disc extreme. It's gotta stainless steel barrel and the composite thumbhole. I havent shot anything but sabots since I was a kid(jumped on the sabot bandwagon early) with my old Knight with #11 caps. I shot the old maxi-hunters in it. From what I have seen though, I dont see where the sabots are any more accurate than anything else out to 100yds. Past that now I think they may be a little more accurate. I learned a while back to control the itchy finger on those long range shots. But this year since I have the new Nikon Omega with the 250 BDC recticle, I'm going to try some longer shots. I know 100yds may not be "Long Range" to you flat landers but around here, where I hunt 400yds is absolute tops.
I was thinking of painting the plastic Powerstroke engine bay badge thingamabob but i don't have a blue dark enough for it my only options are use a bright blue or mix blue and black to get a darker blue.

LOL! Flatlander? Who ya callin a flatlander? Every place I have ever hunted is 8,500 ft above sea level or more. I'm not what you would call a long distance shooter, especially not with a muzzleloader. Maybe with my 7mm mag, which is against the rules in Iowa. D'Oh. Watched my tag a deer one time and drop her in her tracks at 500 yards, but he was a natural shooter and had a true instinct for windage.
The very definition of a sabot describes it as raising the muzzle velocity of a projectile. Sabots, from what I understand, simulate rifling by keeping the round centered in the barrel, thus effecting distance/accuracy. Also sabots are a thinner bullet, and generally thinner round = better velocity, than a standard .50 cal round. Take what I have to say with a grain of salt. Never even fired a sabot...this is all just what I have been reading.
The cornfield hunting will be a whole new ballgame for me...but learning something new is always fun.

Right now I sit in shotgun territory but I might be moving to Rifle territory it depends. If I do move to Rifle territory, I'm sure it would be okay if you wanted to go huntiing on my property.
It's true....a lot of us need help. I like it that way.
Joe inspired me yesterday, so today, I am trying my hand at fajitas. The skirt steak has been marinating all day and the pico de gallo is ready to go.
Almost time to light the coals. Pics coming soon...
Whadya' marinate them in? I'm curious... The 1/2 pineapple, 1/2 soy sounds strange, but I'm telling you, they're awesome!! I posted the rest that goes in there earlier, but if anyone wants to try it out, let me know. I also have a KILLER salsa recipe that's super-easy to throw together, but that's one of those that needs to sit overnight before the flavor settles...
