I'm the same way, at least with home wiring. Car/motorcycle... 12v stuff? No problem, doesn't bother me in the least. But house crap I leave alone. Back East it was easy - my brother's a wiz with that crap, so I'd just call him up & say "Blah Blah Blah I don't want to fry myself.." and he'd do it for me. He'd call me when he needed dirty/nasty crap done 'cuz I don't mind it, and then I could TERRIFY his (PITA) wife that I was going to come in to the house that filthy.

He is currently giving my resignation to the entire company at a meeting I am not even invited to.

Fun day. Don't even have a closing date on my house yet.
One of the owners of our company use to be the same way.. He is no longer an owner now. But anytime some one put in a notice, or was about to, or he heard rumor of it, he took it personal..He made a several employees miserable up to the time they left, then offered them more money to stay.. It turelly left a bad taste in everyones mouth. 1, why did you put that employee through that much hell, 2 why wasnt the employee worth that much before they put their notice in..But yeah, he thought of it as a personal slap, instead of a better opertunity for the employee.. Good Luck Lisa, I hope it works out for you..

Changing breakers is actually pretty easy too. But I can definatly respect if your not comfortable with it. It seems like it takes awhile to get to do stuff like that without getting zapped!

And they said I couldnt lose anymore brain cells, Ill show them....

Believe me, its not easy. But luckily I have the capacity to think about cause/effect before I open my mouth. Like I said for now I still have bills to pay, and I can't afford to walk out at this point. So I'll just take the kicks to the ribs and play nice and bide my time.

Don't feel bad for me. Just another one of life's lesson. I learn from them well.

Yep, it's not that bad at all, but then again, I've been doing that kind of stuff literally since I was a kid!! My Grandfather and Dad would always have me around when they were doing plumbing and/or electrical, so it's just "normal" for me to work on that stuff. Apparently, one of my neighbors was amazed when I put in my own sprinkler system. To me, it was just time consuming. ~450' trench & pipe later, it was done. I even poured my own patio in the back. Dropped a yard & a quarter of 5-bag concrete out of one of those trailer-cart things. I guess I was lucky that my Dad & Grandfather showed me all that stuff. It was just something I took for granted, but as the years go by, I realize how much they showed me. Oh, and my brother is an electrician, too. So any questions I have, I can ask him. I dropped a 234V outlet in my garage myself, too. I expected it to be a big deal, and he told me to just plug in the breaker, run the Romex, and install the outlet. And it was literally that easy. Fortunately, it was only a couple feet from the breaker box, so it was no big deal...

I guess I'm rambling... My first day back to work, and I'm waiting on my NW access to get turned back on. Good thing I have access through my phone, or I'd be bored stiff!!

Joe thats really neat that you got taught all that stuff. Very similiar with me too, we were farmers and my parents pinched every penny, so we didnt pay anyone to do anything unless absolutely necessary!

When I build my shop out at my place next year, Im gonna get my dad to help me with the concrete. He used to drive for a redi mix years ago, and says he learned how to do all that stuff. Will help out alot and save alot of money for me too.

Thanks very much, I tend to pour my heart and soul into whatever I build, so I usually get good results. Doing it myself saved me about $15K, so if you've got the skill, do it yourself!

EDIT- Anybody know how long the rep police keep you in jail?
