I think I found the thread I should have been on all along. I can’t believe all the good information that I have already found here. You guys are great! I have owned my F250 since 2001, 175,000 original miles and want to keep it on the road forever.

I have a 1996 F250, 7.5L, EFI, E4OD, 4x4 (originally had autohubs, but now manual), built in 09/95 and 8800 GVWR. The original symptoms were that the truck suddenly started running very rough, and would barely start. Fuel pumps would come on and stay on, Dead ODB-1 port. I removed the EEC, it had a blown resistor (the one that goes to the ICM pin-4). There was some corrosion (copper oxide) all over the board but the caps hadn’t leaked a lot and I didn’t see any trace damage.

I replaced the caps and resistor. The truck starts now but fuel pump still stays on, it runs very rich and the ODM-1 port is dead. My plan is to fix the original (somehow) EEC and keep it as a spare. I have had trouble finding an exact replacement but I was thinking about trying this:

The original Calibration sticker number is 6-98A-R00 and F6AE-6E061- SSZ. I validated this to my EEC from a post on this thread a couple of years ago for a E150.

NAME ORIGINAL REPLACEMENT

Generation EEC-IV EEC-IV

Hardware EFI-SD48E EFI-SD48E7K05

Processor ASSY F6TF-12A650-AHA F6TF-12A650-AJA

Calibration ALT0 BOX0

It seems like it will work, but I would love to hear some reassurance. Three vendors have shipped me three different EEC-V modules that they “crossed” to my VIN. Also, could you post the Calibration Parts Lists for both? As a bonus, I would love to update the pillar sticker.
I wish there was someway I could look this up myself, but thank you in advance.

EEC-IV is OBD-I with a 60 pin connector while EEC-V is OBD-II and has a 104(?) pin connector There is no way to plug one into the other.

I plugged your calibration code into the search function and came up with this..

from earlier in this thread.

@SubFord - Thank you for the calibration list. Is there anyway to get the same list for the F6TF-12650-AJA? I think the Calibration code would be 6-98B-ROO. I am also a bit concerned that the hardware number (EFI-SD48E) has the 7K05 at the end of it.

I am just wondering what other components may be mismatched.

Yes, I absolutely get that EEC-V is not compatible with EEC-IV. Different keying, different number of pins (60 v. 104), different size of pins EEC-IV are fatter), ODB-I v. ODB-II. There are also some minor differences in the way the top and bottom covers are fastened. I am going to include a photo of the two of them side-by-side. From my research, I think the under 8500 GVWR and the CARB versions of the 460 went to EEC-V earlier than the Federal version and the higher GVWR version. My truck was actually built in September of 1995 and is 8800 lbs. Some of the places I have shopped insist that they can tell the difference based on the 'G' in the VIN. I have found this to be false, but they continue to rely on it. Three different companies sent me the incompatible EEC based on my VIN. It is easy to see the difference MOST of the pictures on EBAY of -AHA units are actually of some kind of EEC-V units.

One of the vendors gave me a bunch of trouble when I returned the unit, claiming that I had modified my vehicle. This is despite that I have owned it since 2001, it has the original wiring harness and connector, it also has the original ODB-1 port. I sent them pictures of the harnesses and of the Haynes page that shows my wiring, so I eventually got a refund.

I finally caught on and refused to give a VIN number and insisted on seeing a picture of the manufacture's label and of the connector. I never actually found a -AHA unit, but I did find a -AJA. I am waiting to receive it.

In my post above, I referred to verifying my Calibration code with an E150 further up the thread. It actually was the post you showed here, I am working on an F150 also and think I had it on my brain, so I wrote 150, when I meant 350. In any case, thank you for going back up this thread and finding that.

Funny story that I just remembered. When I first moved back to Oregon in 2008, I failed smog on the truck because the inspector couldn't find the ODB port. He gave me a ticket for illegally modifying my emissions. I ended up locating the connector and took it back for reinspection, but I finally understand why they got it wrong.

Sorry if I got way down in the weeds on this but I am hoping it helps someone else in the future. This EEC compatibility problem will only get worse as more of these units fail. Ford's site only goes back to 1999, I don't know what I would do without @SubFord's info.

I don't think I will need the -AJA Calibration Parts List after all. My supplier fell through when I tried to verify the warranty restrictions.

Just to elaborate a bit. In order for the warrantee to be valid, they now require me to have a "certified" mechanic reprogram the part and install it. My local certified Ford service department offered me a loyalty discount on a new F250 but showed no interest in fixing my EEC problem.

I think the part would have probably worked as is, but red flags went up and so I am shopping for another EEC. If anyone knows of a quality supplier, please PM me the information. Thanks!
