It's the hardware code that needs to match. The picture above shows EFI-SD48B, which is for a 351w E4OD.
In the context of the EEC-IV itself, the calibration is the 4-digit code.
The picture above shows the calibration as LAY1.
Bottom line, any hardware with EFI-SD48B will work with any V8 engine.
I believe the manual EEC-IV will have hardware EFI-SD44B, missing hardware to run electronic trans.
You cannot swap SD44B with SD48B vice versa.
You can use SD48B with a tuner to run a manual trans.
You cannot use SD44B ever, to run an electronic trans, C6 would be OK.
Above is all Speed Density(SD) EFI-SDxxx
Mass Air Flow(MAF) will have SMD-xxx hardware codes.
hello all, not meaning to hijack this thread, but have been looking for my own ECM number and can't find the link on line and would appreciate if you could help me out, Bill (subford). my information is as follows for my 1989 f150: Truck VIN number: 1FTEF15N6KNA79517
Calibration code (from door) 853HR00 second #: E8AE6E061-AHE i appreciate it so much, i also sent you an email to your gmail account and a friend request on this forum. thanks,
If you have problems finding a spare, and your current EEC is working, get a Quarter Horse, download the calibration, then you can use any SD48B hardware(using quarter horse and your original calibration). It's can be cheaper as well.
Thank you Subford, my sticker isnt on PCM, when I removed black cover to check it? It has pieces of it. I'm glad sandymane suggested getting spare. Makes me wonder if it is original or not now.
i sent an email to subford @gmail.com and got a reply from a TW Kalebaugh and information similar to what you have sent for the same calibration code 8-53H-R00, only difference being the processor his email gave was E8TZ 12A650 CPA and then added that the number on the unit could be either CP1A or CP2A, so i am confused, he had the same chart you posted here. is the difference in the numbers for automatic or manual transmissions???? mine has a manual, 4 speed on the floor, although i never use first as it is a granny, only 2nd, third and 4th. could you please clear this up for me.
For the calibration code 8-53H-R00.
All I can tell you is the Ford 1988 computer program listing list the part number as E8TZ 12A650-AJA and the Ford 1989 computer program listing list the part number as E8TZ 12A650-CPA with the number on the part as E8TF 12A650-CP1A or E8TF 12A650-CP2A.
I have no idea what transmission goes with each computer number.
I will check the 1988/89 microfiche numbers against with the Ford 1988/89 computer program listing.
It will take some time to set up the microfiche reader to check.
But I will guess that Ford changed the number for the same calibration code 8-53H-R00 from 1988 to 1989.
Take note of my message above. Ideally you'll match the calibration code, but it's not required. Just make sure the engine, transmission, and air-metering method (SD or MAF) are the same and you will in all likelihood be fine. I speak from direct experience, not speculation.
The microfiche for calibration code 8-53H-R00 list E8TZ 12A650-CPA for the part number and E8TF 12A650-CP1A or E8TF 12A650-CP2A for the number on the part.
The microfiche does not list year only that 8-53H-R00 goes with part list #656 and part list #656 gives the above numbers for the part.

Probably not a 5-speed. E4OD is a 3 speed with OD, 4-speed.
Any 5.0 OBD-II MAF AUTO ECU should work from 1996 F150 or F250, must be 104-pin.
Hardware ML1-441.
