You cant text and drive in the city of Phoenix now. I am not sure how much the fine is. Nothing pisses me off more when I see some dumb broad paying more attention to texting or putting on her damn makeup than driving. Most of the time it seems that they are coming into my lane. HELLO dumb azz I am driving a huge truck and could kill you if you dont pay attention.
Hey everybody, they used to have a talking while driving law in the town where i work. They wrote thousands of dollars worth of ticket till somebody fought it and the found out that the town can't enact there own laws regarding cell phone usage, the state has too. The cell phone law was dropped.
Since 90% of my buisness is done over the phone, I must use a cell phone. I am one of the goobs you all see with their bluetooth always hanging on their ear. I have a rule though, if I am going to see a customer face to face I leave the cell phone in the car, and am NOT one of the salesmen that takes up my customers time answering somebody elses question.
I think it was Mr Hand in the movie "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" who drove home the point of my time, your time, and our time. I also demand the same respect when I am the customer. If I come into your shop to buy whatever, then I expect you to spend "our time" wisely by answering my questions without interuptions by a random phone call.
I had to buy a new washer and dryer last weekend, and walked out of an appliance store, because the salesperson was more interested in taking his friends phone call and deciding what they were going to do that evening than he was about how to help me spend $2000 in his store. The only reason I bring this up is that the salesperson that I walked out on called me this evening and asked if I was ready to come in and get set up with a new washer and dryer. I asked if he was paid on commission, and he said he was, and then I told him that due to his unprofessional way of doing buisness that I had already purchased the set somewhere else, that same day. I could hear his jaw drop when I recited his conversation to his buddy back to him.
The cell phone deal in our family was you got one when you started driving and had to pay for it yourself. We all started out with the prepaid phone cards for a year or so and got plans with nextel after that. I can prouldly say I paid for my phone, truck, and insurance all through high school with very little help from my parents. I hate seeing these kids come to school (where I now work) in some expensive car that mommy and daddy pay for. These are also the same kids that get their phones confiscated (third offense is its taken for the year) and have new ones the next day. Hmmm.....rant off, haha.

500+ texts in a month is not really that much at all. I know people who send several thousand, as in 4000-5000 texts per month. That's a lot of texting!
I would say I'm about average on texting. I send a few a day for quick questions & answers, but I'm not a fan of having a conversation via text. If you really have that much to say, just call me. It would be so much quicker that way.
I also agree with those that say cell phones don't need to be in school. I'm all for the strict punishment like Scott mentioned. What do you need a cell phone in school for anyway? You're there. Parents know it. Most of your friends are there too. What's the point?
As for kids having cell phones, I can see where they would get one when they start driving, but before that the parents should know where their kids are, what they're doing, and when they need to be picked up. My parents knew where I was at all times. If I was somewhere and wanted to leave with someone else, I used the phone at the place I was at and called home.
Brandon, walking out on the sales guy is exactly what I would have done. I live by a cell phone too in my line of busines, but I refuse to answer a phone call when I'm with a customer. That's just rude.
Jeez, I'm gonna have to stop spending so much time here. I am feeling older and older everyday. When I was growing up we did not even have a house phone for lack of funds. Now 9 year old children feel it's their birthright to have a cell phone?
Obama gave a good speach the other night, but I'm not convinced just yet. I tried to ask his stance on the 2nd amendment but I was too far in the back and never got called upon to ask a question. Guess we'll see today who his VP pick is.
Thats funny hahaha

It's not really all that funny, it means his teleprompter was working properly, it only gets funny when the screen goes blank on him.

Sounds like somebody needs a train horn. That way you can scare 'em so bad they smear mascara halfway across their damn face. That'll teach 'em to do it at home first.

Don't let those kids bother you. You are much better off having done these things yourself. You're stronger, smarter, more capable and you don't rely on anyone but yourself. That is something that those kids will never be able to say, and they don't know the simple joy and pride of doing something on their own.

Funny, my 56-year-old, technologically inept stepmom texts me all the time, and she's getting pretty good at it! I text people all the time, but usually for quick question and answers. It's not unusual for me to text Randy, my stepmom, my brother, and 3 of my sisters all in one day, and maybe a friend thrown in here and there. I'm not a big phone talker, so texting is great for me.

Mike, they'd have to get through Chris first. I dunno about you, but that's not a battle I'd choose.

Good for you Brandon. Maybe he'll think about his experience with you the next time he is with a customer. I don't know how many times I needed help, or was waiting to check out or whatever, and the person I was waiting on was too busy on the phone having a fight with her boyfriend than to do her job. Bad Customer Service is a big peeve of mine, it drives me crazy. Randy turns red with embarassment sometimes because usually, I can't keep my dang mouth shut and I usually get all loud and call the person out on it, or ask to talk to a manager. Night before last, I was at Home Depot. These two kids (I dunno, 18, 19-years-old, obviously f-ing off instead of working) who worked there stopped and asked if I was finding everything okay. I asked them if they had wallpaper (long story) and the kid looked and me and said "Oh why would you want to do that. Wallpaper is horrible!" I just looked at him, and told him straight up that I was there to get wallpaper, not some punk's opinion and walked away. Later on he found me and apologized and gave me some ideas on where I might find what I was looking for.
