I'll go off topic (which means truck related in the OT thread). How many of ya'll have had your windshield replaced? What did it run? I caught a nice rock today that put a pretty little crack right in front of my face. I'm out of town about 6 hours from home. There's a place that will do it for $145 with a lifetime warranty against wind noise and leaks (if I felt inclined to take a 12 hour round trip for the warranty). Does that sound too cheap, or in line with what it should be?
That is a dang good price Chris. I have had 4 or 5 windshields in my truck, but Insurance has always replaced them for a $50 deductable.

Chris, I had mine replaced by Safelite auto glass for about $190 and they will come to you. Also has a nationwide warranty. They quoted me $240 .over the phone but when I said I was gonna call around for other quotes they dropped their price to get me to do it with them. "git-r-done" I said.

Did they jack up your rates for the claims? With a college age kid on my policy I'd just as soon pay the $145 and avoid any increases.
Of course I might also be leaning that direction because it would force me to stay one more night at this hotel on the beach across from the USS Lexington. I'm thinking while I let the sealant cure I could spend tomorrow afternoon drinking beer and take a tour of the ship.
It's from a local privately owned shop, but if the price sounds too cheap I'd be worried they would take a shortcut and I'd end up with a leak (wind or water) in the near future.
I get mine replaced through ins. I have full glass coverage though, I can get 2 a year on each vehicle for free. Only cost me like an extra $20 a year through State Farm.
Its cheesecake time!!!!!! Cant let this last piece go to waste. LOL.

That's a good piece of info. The internet said they were $240, but I'll call them in the morning and see if they've got room in their price. Of course $190 to $145 isn't as big of a jump. That could be just the franchise fee & warranty fund.
Chris, that is a great price, i still need one for mine. I used to only pay a 50.00 deductable but my insurance don't offer that anymore, good luck....
Dan....that is awesome. You have convinced us, we need to go back to Yellowstone.
This has by far been the best trip to Yellowstone for us.
The best part is sharing it with the next generation.

It was on the road between the west entrance and Madison. There is a herd of elk that hang out in that general area and the have a pattern of travel.
There was a "critter jam" at one pull out with a dozen cars and occupants watching the elk working there way downstream. We went to the next (empty) pullout and got out of the truck and went out in the field. They were on the far side of the river so I thought it was going to be all right for taking a bunch of pictures. I had no idea they were going to cross right where I was standing. They refused to move until we backed off from where we were standing and then they crossed.
What an experience, if you listen to the sound track you can hear the youngest grandson with wonder in his voice.
We were very priviledged to be there and consider it a gift from God.

drunk boating should be illegal and if it is then why dont we have lake cops
It it big time illegal here. Carries same punishment as a DWI on the road. We also have lake cops. The Missouri State Water Patrol. Completely separate from the Game Warden. Essentially the same as Highway Patrol, but in boats. They've got quick boats with lights and sirens, are armed, and well trained. Like others have said though, there just aren't nearly enough of them. I grew up going to the lake (different one than I mentioned earlier) nearly every weekend during the summer and we would only see the Water Patrol maybe twice a year.

I think it was last year sometime I had mine replaced and I think it was around $160-$180. I found a place that carries the Carlite glass, which has the 'Super Duty' in the middle of the windshield. I was specifically looking for the glass with the Super Duty words in it.

Nolan, all my Sharpies have dried up. I would appreciate it if you could send me one.
I just figured if I was going to spend the money on the glass, I wanted the OEM stuff. My previous windshield had several visual waves in it that distorted stuff directly in my line of sight. I didn't figure that would happen with the OEM quality glass.

That's a good price, and about what I paid. That is the first thing I did when I got back from Alaska. Drive up there you can bet you'll need a new windshield by the time you get back. If I could have found the Super Duty one I would have sprung the extra bucks for that, but there is probably no difference between the 145 and the 190 windshields.
Chris, it should certainly be under $200. I paid between $125 and $150 to have new windshields installed @ work. Like was mentioned before, just make sure it is good quality and free of those irritating distortions. The company in Houston was Safelite or Autolite or something similar. Just call around and compare. BTW, I have had zero leak or wind noise issues.
This is probably getting old, but is the forum running slow for anyone else today? Pages are taking about a minute to load and after submitting a post, it sits on the same page until I refresh it. Then my new post'll show up. Its really getting annoying.
