My nine year old is just jonesing for her own phone, but I just can't get my brain wrapped around the idea that a litte kid needs her own phone. It's rediculous.
Hell, I've only carried one for the last few years....and sometimes wish I didn't have it.
there is no need for a cell phone until you're 15 or older my dad got me one so he could find me when i was working on the farm i can not see why a 9 year old would need a phone for if you need to call some one theres landlines. it really iritates my sister who is 13 when she sees someone with a cellphone who is years younger than her because she doesent have a cell phone
I would have a hard time getting a youngster a phone. My stomach flips thinking they would get the same pictures/jokes/video's that i get. Hookie Cats, I wouldn't, NO WAY, want them to get that stuff. There is no way to screen that. Don't think anyways. The internet is bad enough, but i can screen that..
Ok so while I was catching up on reading from last night... This thread grew a page and a half... All i got was something about spelling and gramer. Jaocb is 16 and dosn't text much.
Something about using texting terms. Lisa pointed out that if you have firefox you don't have to know too much to be a good speller. And Jacob is against 13y/o's having sell phones!!! LOL I'm lost!
My oldest will be 9 in two weeks and she is begging me for a cell. She has even gone as far to ask me about my cell plan and telling me that I can just add her to the family plan and we can get her phone for only $10. She cant keep track of her shoes let alone a $200 cell phone. My lovely drunk sister in law got her daughter one on her 9th bday. Riley doesn't understand why I won't get her one when her cousin has one. I could throttle my SIL for that.
I got my daughter a cell phone when she turned 16 and started driving by herself. I didn't allow text messaging, and told her if I ever heard about her taking on the phone while driving I would take the car away.
I'm sure she never talked on the phone while driving.

It's amazing how fast they get independant. I'm kicking around the idea of adding a line just so there will be a phone in the house for the rare occasions that we leave the girls home alone.
talking about driving and talking on a cell phone i would trust my uncle any day driving and talking on a cellphone he can operate a big complex forage harvester one and half handed one elbow on the steering wheel on hand on the controls and he drives in a strait line and he hasnt damaged his nice machine ever

I just recently got myself an ear bud. Sure is nice being able to talk to people and keep both hands one the wheel. Well ok, one hand on the wheel and the other on the shift ****. Or out the window.. Or on the stereo remote... Or wrapped around a cheeseburger.... Or flipping through playlists on the ipod..............

Works great. Good alternative to a land line if you have a high speed internet. magicJack
50 for the first year. 20 there after or something like that.

Yes, but he's been driving a little bit longer than you have. Besides, the chances of him crossing the yellow line and getting involved in a high speed head on collision are pretty slim.
Ipods/cell phones/Txting/Navigations all distractions. a 16 / 17 year old is trusted to make the right decisions, and crossing the yellow line for the on coming family.
But, That same 16/17 year old wanted a pack of Marlboro's. Denied. Not old enough.
My wife will lurch off the couch if a txt messages comes in. " OMG, I have to get it, Right now" I can imagine what happens while she is driving.
Here in Ca. Handsfree devices are the law when driving... They can pull you over and give you up to a $200 fine. Alot of departments are upholding a zero tolerance for it...
Hey, Chris. I would be careful how you gave out information like that around here. You never know who might come knocking on you door after reading that.
Not that I'm interested. That reminds me, it's time for me to go make a phone call.
