Im ready for a super nice day today, its already really nice and warm out!
Morris Ive never heard of kelsens, where abouts are they from your place? Closer to town? On that same highway or...? If you remember you should let me know how it goes.
I dont mind having a safe truck, but I think there is such thing as being a little too picky!
I hope there is one for dash lights then! I checked my dash lights again tonight, and the air gauges are a tad dimmer then the speedo, tach, and the other gauges, but not by much and a guy can easily see them.
Ah well, gotta play their game!
Morris where do you take your gravel truck to get safetied at? I went to western star.
Ask them to show you where in the regs it says that all dash lights have to be illuminated at exactly the same level.
It would be common sense, that if they are visible that is good enough.
My brand spanking new 2009 F350 does not have all gauges illuminated perfectly evenly light levels....Gee maybe i should park it, it must be unsafe to drive.....NOT

The inspector should go get laid and lighten up.
Ya know man, thats actually a good idea. I may even spend twenty bucks to get him a "lady of the night" to ease him up a little
i have seen trucks with 3 air guages primary/secondary/ pedal pressure.
you sure you don't have a dimmer switch failing? i have seen where, when they do fail
where they stay bright or stay dimm. and are real hard to get the lights to adjust
from dimm to bright. another thing to think about is fiberoptics. alot of trucks have that.
over time they get frayed and that will cause your dash lights to go dimm.... a discolored bulbs will make the lights dimm.
and some trucks have individual bulbs in each gauge. like the freightliner century class has mini bulbs in each gauge. and the fiberoptics are kept to a minimum.
good luck morris,
marty, here in the states they have to be lit up specially at night. for the purpose of air.
if your dash lites are out and you lose air pressure your truck will stop... its designed to work that way. or suddenly go into a skid due to loss of air. but the secondary pressure
is supposed to work to help as a back up so you can control it! its a safety thang!
i'm for safety... when it comes to me and my wife driving! yes its safety....
when i pick up my dads truck, it will be inspected by me....

I have driven and owned several rigs, and have way too many miles hauling.
And for sure its bad you lose pressure and the brakes dynamite.
But i guess I wonder why if they are visible, thats not good enough.
On many trucks it is hard to get the gauge lights turned down low enough to not hamper night vision, but they generally go way brighter than need be.
Thats just my experience.
I sometimes kill my dash lights totally at night, as any light shining up makes it harder to see the hazard on the road until too late.
And the older I get, the worse it becomes....It sucks getting old.
Yeah these gauges have a light in each gauge. Lights work 100 percent, they are nice and bright when I take them out and test them, and they do work ok when in the gauges.
I didnt get a chance to look for led bulbs or anything today but Im gonna try and check it out tomorrow, and put new bulbs in all of them.
Its definately not a safety issue, they are visible at night, just not quite as bright as the other gauges (the other gauges are smaller and i think they are a different brand of gauge)
