Nothing for more snow here, not at least just yet Jack. Send all it Paul`s way..........He was waiting for it.
According to Les, the fellow that died in the flood it was an older farmer and his wife, possibly the wife survived but not the farmer. He got caught in the current near Birch River in Western Manitoba.

So the death wasn't from the Red River? Working eveings sucks as I don't get the news! My family still lives 20 miles east of Winnipeg but if the flooding ever gets to them, Winnipeg will pretty well be a write-off.

Our Manitoba fellow member ''less'' mentioned it in an email, it sounded like the poor fellow perished in or because of the flood.
I start a thread on this year`s Manitoba flooding and maybe less will see it and let us know what`s happening there.

Thats a good article about a bad situation.

Ive been through flooding when I lived in the lower mainland, it wasnt fun then, and it wasnt this bad (although it was bad too)

one thing i never understand, no offense to anyone who could be connected to this situation, but why the heck do you build or live so close to a river that has such a repetiore of flooding??? like new orleans... the whole bloody city was near the coast and below sea level??? fishing lake saskatchewan a couple of years ago... pile of cabins destroyed by water from spring flooding. they had the cabins built between the lake and the cat-tails. common sense tells you that cat-tails need to be submerged in water to survive, so why in the dickens would you build between them and natures path of survival????

beats me, but i think the gov't and insurance companies should be using their heads and putting people in a safe place instead of trying to make a place safe for people...

thats like a friend of mine lost his shop due to a landslide. and his insurance company refused to cover it. they just said we don't offer that type of insurance.
trust me being flooded isn't fun... and losing someone isn't fun either!

I see your point sherm. I dont know why people have to have stuff built so close to low water levels either.

In this case though, the water level has risen something like 6.5 meters, thats a little different (imo).

People probably never imagined it would ever get that high.

I was born and raised in Prince George.
We have 2 big rivers that meet right in town, and both flood their banks probably on average probably every 2 years.

Well still lots of people build near them, then snivel when they flood.

Those two rivers have a history of flooding, so IMO only stupid people build near them, and they deserve to flood.
All they have to do is check into the cities archives, and/or ask around a bit.
If the river has only flooded its banks once, and that was 100 years ago, I guess I could see taking the risk.
But more than that, and build on a tall hill with a river view if you need to see the river so badly.
Sorry for using common sense so early on a saturday.
