I'm not having any issue (yet) with the brake light switch but Madsonp posted a thread a month or two ago about potential issues with the factory relay. So I was looking at making a modified design for a 98 that could use the 99 switch. As soon as I get my wiring diagram and if its detailed enough, I'll know if I can modify the switch or if its better to just keep a spare in the glove compartment.
As far as the stereo system goes, I'm not stuck on the head unit. It's ok but was something I through in after someone kindly removed my factory one without my knowledge. I should replace the factory amp at the same time since it is marginal. I want to install the sub in the same location as where the factory one would go. I believe there is room for it. I'd like external amps for the sub. The head unit would have to be able to handle CD's, mp3's, and HD AM would be nice. I also want to be able to control the frequency range that each set of speakers see.

Well, I'm personally prefer Pioneer stereos, I've been buying them for years and have never had a problem with them. You can view these at: Pioneer USA - Home I myself have the AVIC-D3 in mine. A neat thing about Pioneer is that they have componants that can be added on to suit your needs, things like XM radio, Bluetooth module, CD changer etc...Their six disk changer mounts real well in the same location as the stock one with a few slight modifications to the stock bracket. The easiest to mount in your vehicle is a single DIN which they make mounting kits for Car Stereo Installation at Crutchfield.com , the AVIC-D3 I put in mine is a double DIN and it works but it takes a bit of modification of the dash to make it work.

When it comes to your subwoofer, does your rear right side panel have a recess in it? If so one of the following subwoofers will probably work for you: Find Car Audio/Video Gear that Fits Your Vehicle at Crutchfield! these you can get with a built in amp or without. I myself put the amplified MTX in mine and it's very impressive. In your case the recess in your panel is removed and the speaker and a speaker grill put in its place. So I'd say for now pick out a head unit that has the features you're looking for then a sub and we'll take it from there. Here's some photos of my set up.

Very nice set up. I'm not looking for the nav or dvd options since except for my yearly trip to Pa to visit the parents, all my driving consists of driving the kids to school, then to work, then to school, then home. There's not enough time to even warrent a CD changer. My expy came with the front bench seat since I wanted the seating capacity at the time. When I start this project, I'll seriously consider changing to the bucket seat setup similar to yours. The sub unit you have would fit perfectly in mine. I can't find detailed tech specs on it though. I had a Pioneer head unit in it that was very satisfactory but it was stolen so I replaced it with a Panasonic which I had on hand. So my current plans are the following:
1) Install center console (optional but would make wiring a heck of a lot easier)
2) Install head unit with minimum of 2 pairs of outputs + sub output, aux in, usb in, mp3/ipod capatible
3) Install 3 way cross over
4) Install 4 channel amp
5) Install MTX amp'd sub package
I'll keep the speakers I currently have to see how they work with the new system. If I need to replace them, any suggestions?

Well, I put 500 miles on the expy so I'm going to change the oil today. I'm going to run the used oil through a filter attached to a magnetized ring for fun.

Yes, it would be a good idea to change it after 500 miles. Let us know what the oil looks like!

The oil was nice and clean with no signs of carbon or metal flakes. I was concerned about scarring the cam shafts since the guy that worked on the valves mixed up the rocker arms I had seperated. I filled it with Royal Purple 5W30 which I've been using since it went out of warranty. Next week its changing the transmission, torque converter, front & rear differentials, and transfer case fluids again using Royal Purple.
