This would be the perfect time for headers but then I'll need the larger diameter throttle and exhaust to make it worth while. Maybe next year. The machine shop didn't find anything wrong with the heads. So, they'll complete the valve job and then I'm ready to put the puppy back together. Looks like it was a blown head gasket after all. What I can use is detailed info on how to time the cams since I ended up having to take everything apart.
The shop said the lenght of the springs didn't match up what the spec book called out. They said the springs match up to a '00 rather than a '98. Interesting.
The new springs or old ones?? Also if i think of it tomorrow at work, i will look up your EXACT procedure for this job, that way you have a very good reference! Ok one more time, the expy is a 98 right with a 5.4?
Yup, its a 98. I also had to tell him the date of manufacture (8/8/97). Apparently, Ford did some in-year modifications that changed the gasket design. The springs they're measuring are the originals.
O crap, im sorry i TOTALLY forgot about it. You didnt get the heads yet did you?? Im going to my shop tomarrow to do a little work to my truck, so i will make sure i get that info for you!!
I picked them up today. $300 a head for the valve job and milling. The price also included intake and head gaskets, head bolts, valve stem seals, and lash adjusters. Don't worry, I'm still cleaning the block and other things I've taken off. I plan on starting the reassembly work Monday evening.

Nah no drinkin lately, been workin late hours and me and my pops been diggin a ditch for a while (gotta love septic tanks...).. Good buy on the lift, does it have air jacks on the front and back to lift the vehicle while its on the rack??
It doesn't have the air jacks, but it comes with a jack tray that you can put hydraulic jacks in to do the same thing. The price doesn't include shipping which was $360 but even still its a good price.
Where are you going to set that up? We could set it up at my house to see if it works.
Oh, you'd really like that wouldn't you. This is where my lift is going, it's a 30'x70' shop that I built on my place. I put it up before building the house (priorities you know). The lift will be a perfect addition to it, besides that I just don't like crawling around on the ground anymore.
MadsonP i am jealous of you for having that nice place to work on stuff at home lol.. I have to come all the way to my shop to work on my stuff. Me and my old man was talking about buildin one of those types of building this summer coming and puttin some lifts in it, how much did that building set you back? I havent found my way to the shop yet lol, still tryin to wake up and put some boots on lol.. So as soon as i get there il see if i can copy and paste the info you need sbclemens.
