Excursion Meet Poll 4
One of the CG's I've narrowed it down to will not take reservations until January 1...that CG BTW has some AWESOME cabins!...you and george should have...oh never mind...don't ask don't tell!
Big R is gonna try and swing thru that area to get a birds eye view of the choices...all the reading I've done hasn't turned up any 'bad' reviews of the leader...it is near the action...nice layout...larger sites...nice cabins...trolley thru the CG to get you to the action if you don't want to drive...it sounds really good...but having a local eye shot would be great...
I'm hoping to have the final details to George before my December 13 surgery...as I'll be off-line for about a week after the surgery...so times a ticking...
joe.
Joe and I have really scoped out some nice CGs - we tried to find the best balance for size, amenties, cabins and tolerance; we didn't want to get too close to everyting, but we wanted to be close enough to enjoy what the area has to offer.
Once we decide on a CG, we'll start scoping some local hotels in close proximity.
I struggled with this as I tried to select a place close enough to the action but yet not so everyone would have to fight horrendous traffic each and every outing. Also one that has big enough sites and one that will allow 'late' comers (i.e. new members to JOIN US) to join in the Ex meet...I've ranked things like playgrounds, on-line reviews, my personal interviews/questions with the campgrounds...I've spent some time 'picking' and 'narrowing'...I've discussed with Mark and bounced ideas off him...also Big R too.
I've probably spoken with 8 campgrounds personally over the past 4-5 days and weeded out many more without calling based on on-line reviews...so...time has been spent and I think we have a WINNER...
Also find a small enough campground that had cabins and other amenities for all to enjoy as well as near hotels for those that prefer that option...close to resturants, and the 'trolley' line...etc...
With all the above data...and discussions...we've settled on Twin Creek as being the cream of the crop for our needs.
They are a little more pricey then some of the others but have lots of things that should appeal to us as a group.
Plus the 'icing' in the cake was today when I was speaking with the owner...I carefully approached the topic of 'alcohol' in the park...and asked if they had any 'restrictions'...without missing a beat this lady said no restrictions...'as long as SHE was invited!'...I told her she was MY KINDA GAL!...how's that for a GOOD CATCH?!?!?
It is a top rated Woodall's and Good Sam's park http://www.woodalls.com/search/camp/...rtiserTypeID=1
Being a Good Sam's park we get a 10% discount for Good Sam's members (you can join Good Sam's for $12 a year for new members if you aren't one)
Per night stay is for 2 people as appears to be 'customary' in this area. Kids/people over 6 are $4 extra per day. The sites are on the 'higher' side for this area with a $44 per night before the kid fee...BUT think of it this way...look at how much GAS we will be saving being 'closer'...JellyStone for example is about 15 miles further out ONE WAY and is the SAME amount!...how much extra would 30 miles round trip each day cost?...just a thought
Also anyone entering the park staying somewhere else would be charged $4/person but that entitles them to use of the pool and facilities.
Deposit.well it is based on length of stay. 3-4 nights is $100, 5-7 nights $150. If cancellation is necessary.as long as more than 10 days prior to arrival you would get all but $10 back. Within 10 days you would forfeit full deposit.
Some of the big restrictions folks need to know about would be that no 'dangerous' dogs are allowed. Rottweilers, Dobermans, Pit Bulls are not allowed. Also not sure if anyone has a popup or Hybrid trailer.but if you do.NO PETS are allowed in canvas skinned trailers which makes sense to me I guess.
Cabins...well the cabins look very nice. BUT there is a 6 night minimum.not sure if that is an issue.BUT we are close to numerous hotels near there...so that is a plus.
Speaking of being closer.this one is much closer to Gatlinburg which I do view as a plus in that there is a trolley stop right outside the park and for $0.25 per person you can ride into town and not have to fight the traffic.
Also what is nice about being on the west side of Gatlinburg.you can come off of I-40 and not have to fight your way THRU Pigeon Forge...those that have done that know what I mean...those that haven't...well...trust us!
So once we get the go ahead.I can call that this is the winner.and set up our 'group name' so when you call.just mention the group. Something like Ford Trucks dot com?
How does this place sound to everyone? http://www.twincreekrvresort.com/ind...e=rvsetups.htm
Big R has told me he is still able to do a drive by of Twin Creek to make sure it is all we think it is...but I'm not expecting any surprises...but that would still be a HUGE help in deciding for sure.but I have to tell you . I've looked at a LOT of campgrounds and spoken to them all.this place seems to just have that right feeling.I know we are giving up a little 'ambiance' BUT the others all had more 'negatives' IMO that make this one more attractive. The conversation with the owner today just put icing on the cake. Plus we don't have a 30 mile drive each time we want to go someplace nor 'should' we have to sit in miles of Pigeon Forge traffic.YES it is a drive from Cades cove.but it is a nice drive that I've made before albeit 20 years ago on my honeymoon...but made it none-the-less!...
So what does everyone think?
Once we decide we can start calling.like I said.we can start calling NOW if we decide or wait until after Christmas.she seemed to think it would be okay.
MY plans if anyone is interested is to arrive on Thursday July 24 and depart on Friday August 1 pending any changes before I book.that's what I'm thinking.this way we avoid weekend traffic in the area.
Joe.
Nick
I knew that you would ask that! hahahha
Did you say $44 per night for the cabins?
So, I have a Great Dane and a little Pug, do you think you can ask your future drinking buddy if that's ok?
They don't mess inside or chew on stuff and I dont' really have anywhere to leave them for a week.
Mind you, on the days when we do excursions, I'd have to leave them in the cabin with the AC on but in the evening, they'll hang out where that big cooker is

I know it's going to be a bit of a pain for me but don't really want to leave them at home for a week.
If you talk to Big R, ask him how big this place is so they don't wander out in the road or anything.
Helluva job. You were worth every penny of that million..
Well, you Mark and BigR, a big thanks

Besides, Great Dane's have never been considered dangerous. Super laid back dogs and lil' Noodle can only do so much damage

Tell you one thing, most of yall are gonna love my dogs. They are very cool and the most popular one is the one I just had to put to sleep. Everybody loved that dog and yes, he was a Rottie
