You can find your frame vin# on top of the passenger side rail, just forward of the front cab mount, across from the exhaust manifold. The # is actually stamped in 2 locations. I think the 2nd spot is on the same rail between the floorboards.
Your paint code is on your warranty plate...U= pastel sand iirc. Same color as mine between the "dent" and racetrack trim of my truck.
I'd say lift it like you want it but, think about how you want to be able to use the truck also. And please put modern radial tires on it and no 20" or larger wheels PLEASE! lol! (I run 18's and think it looks proportionate with a 38" tire)
Its your truck, make it yours, take care of and enjoy it!
I have only had mine for right around a month...have work to do...mods in mind. Ill start my own thread tomorrow after I get some current pics of "Michele"...and hotlink back to this thread once it's up. Love the old Fords. 50's,60's,70's when trucks were trucks...and an SUV was "something under the vehicle"

Thanks for the info man! And I promise I wont disappoint on this. Thanks again!
So I have a 1978 f150 supercab shortbed that I have coverted to 4wd and people tell me I wasted my money cause they think they made a factory shortbed 4x4, I have yet to see a factory one and was wondering if this is true?
Thanks man! I was thinking a 12" springs on 44s but then again not very practical and also I don't want to **** anybody off by "ruining" a rare truck but I have always wanted a big truck what do you guys think? set of 4 springs are $2400 with poly bushings and u bolts from National Spring, and I wouldn't by tires new being that they're 700+ bucks a pop.
Don't waste your time or money on the 44's. Trust me they are not practical for street running, been there done that.

Ford did not make a 4wd shortbed Supercab, they have no idea what they are talking about.
Those tires are parnelle Jones (sp) dirt grips and it's been awhile but I think they come in sizes up to 38"ish. I'd guess that to be about a 6" lift which is the biggest lift available from the aftermarket companies.
I posted pictures of mine in a different Supercab thread, but here it is again. The previous owner fixed it up to look like a fire truck to advertise his brush pumper truck business. I haven't done a thing to it since I bought it. I plan on putting an original bed on it, and eventually swapping in a Cummins.
All work on the truck is on hold until my new shop is finished. Here it is, it's 36' wide by 52' deep. Someday I will put in a concrete driveway, but that's going to wait until after I build a new house. The shop is almost done. Need to finish up some electrical work and put in drywall & insulation. The door looks smaller than it really is. It's 10' tall and 16' wide.
God I love that truck! If you wanna trade, I've got a complete (albeit dissembled) solid 79 s-cab sans engine and trans. I'll trade you everything for that truck
More leanin on this but cant find any details on this truck. So if anybody knows anything bout this truck let me know!
The blue truck is from Cali, it was for sale around 3 years ago. I looked into buying it but shipping killed the deal. IIRC it didn't not have a front driveshaft. Also if you look at the roof it was dented in. Truck no doubt had some issues.

Yea I figured that out after alittle while it was on an old forum on Pirate4x4 but for color of my truck I kinda was thinking the color my toolbox its a pretty cool orange, Mac Tools call it "Fireball Orange" it also reminds me of the Harley Davidson Screamin' Eagle orange too. No two tone, no trim and maybe alittle bit of black but mostly chrome on the truck. Heres my tool box:
I've got a 79 F150 Ranger supercab 4x4. I've had it for about 10 years, but a few years ago it got out on a back burner when the rear end blew out. The PO had been pretty rough on it. I had to replace the original engine (400m) with a 351M right after I got it, and then the rear end went out, and around here 4.11 ford 9" are hard to find, and I had other stuff come up that took priority. Finally got a chance to resurrect it, and its fired right back up to life. I love this truck!
Today I went into DMV and got all the back registration paid up, and I'm hoping to have my beast back on the road within the next couple days. I've got a couple older pics in my album, but it looks the same. As I get it going I'll post more pics.
351M, C6, 4.09 dana 44, 4.11 rear, 31x10.50 tires

peterbilttrucker Now I realy like those colors I have been looking for a factory shell but that one looks pretty good.
Thank you very much! I love those colors so much that I had my 1975 Diamond Reo Royale painted to match. It's still a work in progress.
As far as the shell, it came with the truck and my dad and I really liked it, it's era correct. However, lots of other people, like my wife, have urged me to get rid of it, haha. I'm happy with it looking like a grandpa truck, but the shell was in rough shape when I bought the truck, a lot needed re-done.
Thanks Fordrealdrive. I watched that truck for about two years before I was able together it. I've always liked the lack of racetrack trim, probably because my dad got a 79 F250 standard cab new when I was a kid that was the same way. He still has it and uses it, and it looks and runs like a champ. That truck is what sold me on these. My kids are already trying to call dibs on mine lol.
