got a 79 460 conversion 4x4 conversion bought off an older man who was diagnosed with cancer around the same time this rust began on his truck.. he got it build over a couple Years spendin his some of his retirement funds on er. he did it up to the nines with new box sides motor and even a 4x4 conversion to a 79 s/c shortbox. was a white truck but got a full sand blast and paint job with now a blue 2tone! once the truck was done (20+ grand later) he began to enjoy it until he noticed this rust apeer. he tried fixing it earlier on at the shop he went through but it was no use. as the rust grew he got cancer so he had to let it sit for 2 years. I picked it up off him under agreement I'd keep him posted with it and complete the project for him.
so my question is how do I go about fixing this? I an on a student budget but won't a quality job to be done.. Is a new cab necessary? or how could you patch it? please help me out!! thanks

I would start a new post with your question. You'll get a wider audience to help you answer the question. Your going to have to start by cleaning the paint up in that area to determine how bad it is. But if its totally rotted out, it's a tough welding job, but probably better than a cab replacement since you'll probably end up doing some rust repair on any cab you find.
It will be worth it though. Looks like a really nice truck otherwise.
Thanks Fordrealdrive. I watched that truck for about two years before I was able together it. I've always liked the lack of racetrack trim, probably because my dad got a 79 F250 standard cab new when I was a kid that was the same way. He still has it and uses it, and it looks and runs like a champ. That truck is what sold me on these. My kids are already trying to call dibs on mine lol.
I wonder how many of us here got to grow up in one of these trucks. My Dad bought a new '78 F250 reg. Cab 4x4 custom trim model when I was 4, that I spent a lot of time in. It's no longer with us (RIP firm grip) but I'm considering putting one together & give back to him
Welcome to FTE btw!

Somebody here was building one off of a highboy chassis but the bed was off of a '80's model...it was about a year ago or so.

Any idea on how he went about doin his 4wd conversion?
I have a '77 F250 Ranger Supercab 2wd. It's in pretty good shape considering its age. The interior is a little rough as I began working on it last year prior to going on deployment and unfortunately haven't been able to do much to it since then.
March, I think I would go new cab or at least a new roof section chopping in the center of A,B and C posts. A lot would depend on what the rest of the cab looked like.
Intro post...79 F250, transplanted 460 with a C6, the body, engine and drivetrain are all in pretty decent condition. The interior needs a bit of work, but all very do-able. I don't have any intention for a full resto, but will do mods to make it more to my liking.
I've been doing a lot of reading. There is a lot of inspiration and good ideas here. Behemoth's Buford is a definite favorite and not far from me.
Whats that space on the trim near the indicator? Looks like something is meant to be there.
I have the same on my truck, but its up near the left side front indicator. I have never been able to figure out what it is.
