My '83 just rolled over 224K, still runs great. No smoke, little blow-by, and pulls like a tractor. Wouldn't trade it for anything.
The guy I used to work for doing lawn maintenance bought a '90 F-150 brand new (300, M5OD, 2WD, 3.55 gears). The truck pulled a trailer every day for the first 200K, then just used for transportation. It now has 295K on it and has never been opened up. It even still has the original clutch! (It does slip pretty bad). Gotta love the 300!
jessfactor, i used to have a truck identical to the one you are talking about. A 95 F150 XL (4.9 5spd). I bought it in 2001 with 95,000 and sold it with 130,000 and had absolutely no trouble with that 300 Six ( The Truck Itself is another story) I now own a 82 F-150 with a 300 six with 135,000 on it. I have alot of faith in that engine, great low end and mid-range torque and tough as hell. My buddy has a 87 F-150 with an inline six that lasted 300,000 miles before it finally died this past year. Impressive.
hmmm.... my '83 bronco's L6 300 has 586,602mi as of this morning, never been rebuilt(the rest of the bronco however has been:P). all i can say is wow... I need to get a new carb, a couple valves in this one have almost frozen up totally and it runs it to rich half the time.
paxle - thats insane. to bad its hard to prove w/that stupid 6 digit odometer. you have to create a gallery. i'd love to see how it looks w/that kind of damage. i wonder if those 5.0 people reached 200k yet lol.
first thing I typoed, it should be 486k not 586k :P
Damage? what damage? *wink* I dunno, I dont want to be tearing that engine apart unless i plan on rebuilding it. it seems to be running ok now that I managed to punch a large hole in the choke plate.
STP, Texaco/exxon gas and Quakerstate oil make all the difference in to world.
Everything on this bronco for the most part is stock, with the exception of some button plate around the edges and a heater motor i have nfc where my father found.
my 85 has x35,000 the body looks like its about 235,000 dam 5 digit odometers.. had x19,000 when i bought it in 2002. i have put new alternater and oil pan gasket far as the motor goes.... bout 1500 into other parts, from brakes to u joints. no major drivetrain problems. new gas tank was super fun.
