333,000 and counting. . . it still runs great around town and on flat highway, but hit a hill going 65 and you'e doing 40 at the top unloaded. Time for a new one to go in.

My 1986 F-150 had 115000 on it when I rebuilt it. All the parts looked new and miced to factory specs. You could even stll see the crosshatch in the cylinders

I ran a 300 I-6 up to 265,000 and then it took the ultimate dump. But it did go that far.

i have an 88 FI and it ran to 350,000 and i replaced the main and rod bearings..good to go...my 85 has 150,000 on it and still runnign great with my 35" tires....

also to whoever said that you need to take the motor out to drop the pan is just screwy in the head...i pulled the pan on my 88, replaced main and rod bearings, changed oil pump, and only undid the motor mounts, intake and hood hinges.....

OK I'll chime in 1993 with 107.5K. Runs like new (bought it at 65K) and no oil leaks.

I can't give any exact numbers, but when I was in highschool, a friend of mine bought a 78 f150 with a 300, and drove the hell out of that thing. One day he was hit and totaled the truck. Another buddy bought the motor off of him and beat the hell out of that thing in his85 F250 for a year or more. When he bought a new truck and parked the old one, I bought the motor off of him and I beat the hell out of it in my 85 f150, off roading on weekends, and driving more than 200 km round trip to work and back once I was out of school. Now dad drives that truck around the farm and it is still running good. Wonder how many more trucks that old motor will outlast.

they need to start making those engines again. even if they dont put them in the new models i'm sure plenty of people will buy them to install in their trucks. i wonder what is the most mileage somebody got outta the 4.9.
