had about 190,000 on my '83 F250 when I sold it in 1996. I saw it form time to time with 2 additional owners around town until about 2 years ago. At 190,000 it ran strong but burned and leaked some oil. My '96 with 351 doesn't have anywhere near the low end tourqe that old 300 six had.
Originally posted by StormChaos I just turned 170,000 last week and still has no engine work! well new alt. but that don't count. I put on 20k+ a year! Can't kill the engine, thing wont die! I beat the thing from mudin to street racing. It'll never die!! I hope to hit 400k. I think if i keep using synthetic oil, K&N performance gold filters and changin it all @5k I'll do it.

K&N oil filters are pretty good. Just stay away from their air filters they are terrible and allow for elevated Si levels per OA reports.
Btw, i love I6's too. I have a 351W in my truck which IMO is one of the "better" v8s. Still doesnt compare to the classic I6. "If' this V8 breaks which i doubt it will anytime soon since i am installing a bypass filter on it i will get a classic I-6.
I own a 81 F-100 and a 75 F-100 both run good. The 75 burns alittle oil , usual about 1 qt. in between changes, the 81 doesn't burn a drop but it is noisey on start up, clacks for awhile usual 10-15 seconds ?. Both motors have over 150,000 miles and are used daily. MY gas mileage is great , usual cost about 18-20 bucks to fill once every 2 weeks.
I bought a '93 F-150 last year and it had 62000 on it. I got it at a government auction for $750. Engine runs like it was new (except the timing needs adjustment) but the body needs a little work. The worst part was the suspention and tires. They have been beat up bad. I am going to be putting new off-road shocks and maybe new coil springs up front. Money is tight but I want to improve the ride and the off-road handling. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I also read some things on this board about doing a cat back exhaust system to improve the horsepower. That and an electric fan will both be in the works soon.
BTW....I just joined this forum and so far I have learned more about my truck than in the last year that I have owned it!! This place is great!!
xag - post your questions on a seperate thread. only a few people will see it in this one whereas everyone will see it if its posted in the forum. for the catback exhaust i'd go to the exhaust forum. do a search and go through past pages and read everything. often times you'll find that your quest has already been asked. when i'm bored i just read through the forums and usually learn alot. good luck.
I have a 1995 f-150 4x4 with 186,000. Oil pressure at the A. burns no oil. no leaks, and only thing i have replaced since i have owned it is fan clutch.
yea i just hit 151000 on mine...that is about 45000 miles i put on the truck since last year....phew way to much driving...but i plow with it and i also have 35"s tires on it and play all the time in the mud....i have a 351 i am swapping to, to get me around until i rebuild the six for more torque...
