Morning all,
It's supposed to be nice today with no chance of rain. But, it's too wet to mow.
RC You're always welcome just let me know. Even if you sit beside me providing your guidance it's better than me doing it alone.
In the remodel they painted all the inside doors white, they were looking pretty rough being stained prior. But they also recommended that I change to 40 year old door ***** out as well as matching hinges. The color was suggested black. So I ordered 7 new door ***** and 21 new hinges from Lowe's. Well the old door ****'s hole is 1 7/8" the new stuff is 2 1/8". They "THINK" they have a jig to open up the existing holes. Guess we'll see Monday or so.
With all the commotion going on I've put off the cleaning lady for almost two months. The place is covered in dust even though they've got plastic up in the rooms they're working in. I'll be glad when I have a house all to my, and the dog's, self.
Pulled a dumb move yesterday. I wanted to put a quick coat of paint on the 56's timing cover, it's Daytona yellow. I bought a can of spray paint from the big box store and shook it up really well. As I was walking out the front door to spray the timing cover in the car port I opened the can. Some how the spray nozzle came off in the process and paint blew EVERYWHERE; Me, the floor, the walls, what a mess. I'm not sure why but instead of running out the front door I ran to the kitchen garbage can. Maybe I was afraid I couldn't get the paint off of the concrete outside. Paint thinner or alcohol would touch it so I got out some MEK. Then I read MEK is not recommended for use on vinyl. So I washed down the floors, might I had they've just been installed, with dawn several times. The walls can be repainted as well as the baseboards, my cloth just turned into another set of work cloths and I'm still looking a bit jaundice. Front hall to the door Same hall from the kitchenette Kitchen Forgot to try to clean up my shoes.
Some days you get the bear, some days the bear gets you.

BJ, SONOFAFISH!
Good afternoon all, we spent the morning shopping for Mothers Day gifts for everyone but Patty. Now I get to work on the pool. Hopefully it goes smoother than BJ with his spray paint. Talk at youins later!
BJ I have to cut those small holes bigger all the time. Many of the house I work on are older and have those small bores. I use a Lennox door **** install kit The bore hole jig clamps to the door so it will keep the hole saw in place and no need for a center drill bit.
Also mineral spirits or denatured alcohol will take the paint off the vinyl flooring. but better to clean it off when the paint was wet.
Atch congrats to William! BJ if I had your luck i'd be a skid row alcoholic! Running over to kimberling city and back tomorrow to get inspection done on the new 2nd home. Sold a gas pump last week and someone supposed to pick up one on tuesday. We're gonna need a boatload of new furniture, refrig (they don't include in new houses any more) and blinds pretty soon. Heading to f100 show in pigeon forge thursday and probly run into bj. Went to a nice car show yesterday in Festus. Beautiful day and well attended. have a great week everyone!
Well hello folks, sorry I took a few days FTE hiatus. We went down to the grand kids friday aftrnoon. And to the step nieces graduation on fri evening. Then sat I worked on the SIL truck (1992 Ford got new headligths and grill). Penny went to the grand daughters last HS singing group sat evening. And drove home WAY to late last night. We are going to her HS graduation in Carthage this thurs. That is a down and back trip, I am tired.
Afternoon all. I spent Friday hacking back the driveway with the new hedge trimmer on a pole so folks can now make it down the driveway without having to dodge the bushes. I was pretty sore yesterday so the wife and I spent Saturday taking care of some shopping and hanging out in the bustling metropolis of Springfield. I made lunch for everyone today and am just getting ready to watch the race at Watkins Glen.
ATCH I musta missed something. I thought you drove the Model A out there??? Can you rehash the story?
Well; yes I did drive it. At least most of the way. It's around 350 miles from my house to Dewey, Oklahoma, where the Stray Kat 500 car show is held every year. I've been probably 15 times in the last 20 years. We were slightly over 300 miles into the trip when the Model A died hammer dead right there on southbound US-169. We coasted to the shoulder and called AAA. After a roll-back ride into Bartlesville (about 5 miles south of Dewey) where we were staying we determined that the timing gear had failed (sheared??). Like most in-line engines a Model A 4-cylinder engine has a side cover. With the cover off we spun the engine with the starter and saw that the camshaft wasn't turning. We rented a car and continued the weekend fun. We then drove the rental back to Columbia and turned it in Monday. The A now resided in the shop of a very talented mechanic who will fix it when it rises to the top of his waiting list. When it's running again I'll go back to Bartlesville and get it. I might rent a car and go myself, turning the rental in down there. I might take Sherry and another (currently unknown) couple where Sherry and the other wife can drive our car home while I and the other husband can drive the A home. I'm going to check into airplanes, trains, and busses but I doubt that any of them can get me to there.
I told a friend over 50 years ago that I can only guarantee one thing about driving or fooling with old cars: "sooner or later they WILL embarrass you." That still holds true today. This is just one more entry into the Atchley book of adventures. It's not the end of the world. Our house is warm and dry. Our refrigerators and freezers are full of food. I know that I said that above, but it's still true. I really have nothing to complain about. Life is still good.
It is a shame, though, that Clarence is still in body-shop jail and the A isn't running or home. It's strictly late model cars for us right now. I might have to get the H-D out. It hasn't been started this year yet. In the last two years I haven't ridden it a hundred miles per year. I've been seriously considering selling it.
