I have heard of people adding forced induction to the six with good results. The knocking sound might be a good excuse to rip that motor out and install new bearings, stronger bolts and forged pistons. , then a little forced induction or Nitrous oxide might be in order. haha I think keeping the mustang a six and working off that, is a great idea. Well good luck with both cars. Later
They make afr heads for the 3.8? I didn't know that, and yeah I am sure they would make some hp. Sounds like you have a plan. The 3.8/4.2 use the same block don't they, or not? Would it be a matter of using a 4.2 crank/rotating assembly, out of a truck engine? I don't know much about this and would be willing to learn. I know I had a short bed f-150 with a 5-speed and the 4.2 v6 and liked it a lot, that little engine with the manual tranny made for a fun truck. I could roast the tires like nothing, more than one person thought I had a v8 in it, because they asked and looked funny when I said no, its a v6. later
i know i drove a 97 ext. cab with a 5 speed and it would smoke them for a long time. but it was not mine. i know little about this motor and i am researching different kits now. i was just told by this v6 loving 03 mutang driver about all the different stuff they have. he is a stang nut. i wish i could find a turbo'd tbird 3.8 and rebuild it and put it and the computer in this car. with all the afr stuff. i would leave all sorts of v8's behind. but i am not sure about the 4.2 and the 3.8 share the same block.
to stroke it that far is almost nposible
those cylender walls arnt that think on them 3.8's and if you would stroke it that far you would have to almost desinge a new lower blockLOL. i would prbibly bore is 0.030 and plain the heads or block then get ur heads on it you can get superchargers prety cheep on ebay. then get a smaller pully for it, headers stuff like that. mine runss pretty smooth
i was told that the 4.2 v6 was a stroked 3.8. that would be cool to put a 4.2 v6 in the car with a chip and headers that i already have installed and true duals which i have that on the stang too.
I found this link to back up your idea of the stroker, shouldn't be too hard to find a junker 4.2 to take the rotating assembly out of, and I have seen the 3.8 super coupe superchargers on e-bay, so seems the sky is the limit. I also read that the bellhousing is the same as a 302 . Check this link out it has some good points about possible heads gasket problems and options for the 3.8. Later
thanks i finally got the intake off and did you know it has a roller cam. it has the spider bars and roller lifters. i wonder if this is an add on or something. i did not know they had roller cams
thanks for that i may wanna look at that cam. i am gonna port my heads and intakes myself since they are aluminum and will be quite easy. i wish the 5.0 injectors would work. i wonder if they would. this motor is the hardest thing to take out.
the 5.0 injectors will work but there exactly the same
no difference. id up ur fuel pressure about 5-10 lbs and get 10% bigger injectors im gonna try that so ill tell u how it is oh id say about tuesday
Adjusting the fuel pressure. Thats a trick the inline, speed density, crowd uses to hopefully gain some hp, it only works if the computer runs the engine extremely lean. I would do it only if I had an accurate air/fuel meter to insure what I was doing wasn't exceeding an optimal air/fuel level. Thats my opinion though. F100guy your gonna have to take some before and after shots of your head porting work. later
