Morning all. Week #2 of "retirement". Still feels odd but I seem to have no lack of things to do although none of them involve fishing, shooting, hunting, or boating. Spent yesterday running a skid steer grading rock for a buddy. We put down 120ton of rock on his shop approach. A good days work. Today I need to fight with the scheduler at the hospital. They like to schedule appointments when I'm not going to be around. smh.
Good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Started out at 27° again this morning. The difference between yesterday and today is that today it is clear, blue skies with frost on the ground. Makes the west yard I didn't get mowed yesterday look a lot worse than I think it is. With no fog or cloud cover it is warming up quickly though. We've gained 14° to 41 in the last 90 minutes. At least the dogs had a good run and wore themselves out this morning. They're stretched out "resting" in the middle of the living room now. Well, CJ is on her blanket on the couch.

I have, at times, thought about going back to work so that I have more spare time to fish, hunt and do other things. I have learned though, that the lawn really can wait another week, weed spray works just as good tomorrow as it does today, And most importantly, always keep an "emergency stash" of $30 or $40 dollars in your wallet for those days when there was a honey do that the fish interfered with and dinner is now coming from the local restaurant kitchen, eating solo or with a fishing/hunting buddy, instead of out of your kitchen and eating with the wife. The wives usually cool off in a couple of days. (Unless of course you can master the art of talking her into going along with you!)
Gee, did I forget to mention the fun and art of Scheduling procedures and treatments? I swear they keep a Fishing and Big Game Synopsis on their desks right next to their scheduling computer. I don't know how many 'procedures' now they want to schedule in Sept. and Oct. Usually within 2 to 3 weeks of an opening day of deer or elk season. Then they tell me I can't lift more than 5 or 10 pounds for six weeks after the procedure.
The docs are pretty good tattle tales too! They shoot you up with all this dope that is the equivalent of truth serum. Then when you spill the beans about going fishing or hunting the next week or 2 weeks down the road, they have the nurse and orderly wheel you out of the O.R. to recovery while they go running off to find your wife. It's usually under the 'guise" of filling your wife in on how the procedure went and bringing her back to the recovery room to be with you. BUT, then you find out the first thing they told her goes something like "DO YOU KNOW WHAT HE HAS PLANNED FOR (next week, 2 weeks.....? To which the wife dutifully responds with, "Yes, he's going (fishing / hunting)". Then the shoe drops...."He can't do that! He can't over exert or lift over 10 pounds, a gallon of milk" for at least the next 6 weeks". It's especially bad if the schedulers crystal ball tells them that you have drawn a big game tag that you usually need at least 4 to 6 (or more) points for! And heaven forbid if they find out the Salmon are running in the Rivers!
Good evening Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Today kind of went down the tubes without fan fare. Ended up spending most of the day on the phone or the computer running down parts and accessories and trying to get some things out of the way ahead of the upcoming VA Op and hunting trip. Shipment an installation is still due in tomorrow and I'm not sure they are going to have everything they need. There was a pre-shipment of parts that came in while we were at Diamond Lake. When we came back on the first Friday, we retrieved it from the gate and brought it to the house. It's for the installation crew to work with so I really didn't look closely. When we got back I double checked the box. They appear to me to be the wrong size parts. Called and they confirmed they were the wrong items. So, now I don't know if they are bringing the proper parts with them or the crew gets here, does an Oh, s*&^, leaves and nothing gets done.
Good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. 30 this morning and warming up under clear, no smoke skies. We've come up 8° in 15 minutes. It was 30 at 0530 when the dogs did their morning thing and 30 at 0755. Temp probe is in the shade so direct sun wouldn't have any effect.
Afternoon all. Got my echocardiogram done this morning (the fight with the scheduler) so that is out of the way. I have a call with my nurse navigator tomorrow but I should be fishing so I'll have to troll my way to cell service. Hope I make it. LOL Been working a FB marketplace deal for some RR ties which took way longer to put together than it should have. One reason I don't like marketplace. people are morons. Now I need to head to Nashville (in oregon) at 1730 to pick them up so not sure when I'll get to the coast. Spent yesterday working on matching up EOB statements to invoices which was a couple of hours and then worked on some stuff for social security. Again doing everything for someone else and nothing for myself.
Yes Jim, maybe just working through this crap would be better since at least when I was working, I got to play.
When I checked in at the hospital this morning the check in person asked, "Do you work?" Had to think a bit and finally said, "no". Afterwords I stopped at The Diner and had a chicken fried steak for breakfast. I was starving. I looked around and mostly just old farts who don't work.
WELCOME TO RETIREMENT! And don’t look in the mirror. You might see that one of the old farts drooling over the chicken fried steak is you. I’m in the next booth drooling over the same thing and if not that, then it will be Biscuits & Gravy with a slab of Ham. Gosh how I miss Tommy’s and #11. Just have to settle for a #12 with molasses bread at the Otis Cafe now.
Now the wife wants a hinge adjusted, thinks the sink is making a funny noise, the closet door latch needs adjusted, wants a new shelf while I need to get a second coat of weather/deck sealer on the trailer, dump the lawn sweeper and mow 2 acres and sweep 1-1/2z🤪😁😂🤬🐟🎣
